Default Cleaning arrows?

Well i found a new problem with my setup, my arrows are getting caked with gunk from the target. I didnt have that problem with my CE Terminator Hunters and slower bow. Now i am shooting Gold Tips from a faster bow. They are a bear to get out and when i do they have fibers from the target caked/melted to them.

Is it ok just to use a piece of plastic to scrape them off? How much damage will this do to the coating or arrow itself? I saw some arrow lubes at the shop, do they really work to eliminate this problem?

Thanks
Joe

I am usually able to get that stuff off my arrow shafts just using my fingers. Rub briskly and it usually comes off pretty easy. On the tougher stuff I use my fingernail.

A couple friends of mine use Woody's arrow lube and it definately does work. Especially on those tough 3D targets. Though it does have an odor to it so it'd probably be a good idea to only put that stuff on your practice shafts.

yeah I use a fingernail too. Woody's is great stuff also. It sure does save the muscles on those long 3d days.

I have a pocket knife with a half serated blade that fits the contour of the arrow perfectly this works really fast....
woodys works good, so does Armour All.

I had the same problem with my carbons. The local shop suggested that I put car wax on them. This helped alot.

I rub mine with an earth scented bar of soap every so often.

Leaves them smelling "dirty" and lubes them up too!

Joe

We use a knife blade to clean gunk that is on the arrows and a simple bar of soap to coat the arrows prior to shooting. Seems to keep the gunk off the arrows at the 3D range.

Good Luck

It scrapes off mine with a finger nail, like others have said. I have even used denatured alcohol to losen up some of the harder stuff. I also believe you can use mineral spirits on carbon shafts with no problem (if im wrong on this one, please correct me. I believe I had read that some where once).
