Default Outback speed question for yo techs.

I'm getting ready to order a Outback. My question is, How much speed will I lose if I go with a 60# instead of the 70# limbs? What kind of speed should I expect with a 60# and what with a 70# at 29.5 draw? From factory the 60# come in pulling at 63# cranked all the way ant the 70# come in at about 73# give or take a pound for each. I'm asking this because I'm going to shoot a Mantis pendulum and I want to get the max distance i can. Shot my Legacy at 70# with my savage pendalum the other day and i was shooting 3 in low at 30. My set up for this year goes as follows.
29.5 draw
TR mantis
392 gr arrow (total arrow weight)
trap door rest
release
fletcher 1/8 hunter peep
doinker
1 nock

Shooting the same arrow I would be surprised if you get 20 fps out of the extra 10 lbs, all bows have thier sweet spots and some Ive shot bows through my chrono that have only yielded appox 1.5 fps per pound, so I would plan on around 15 fps to be safe.

I'm shooting a 28.5" @ 59 pounds. Tru-peep and a loop. 397 grain arrow at 254 FPS. Cam is timed perfectly, BUT I'm using Winners choice, and lost about 6 FPS because of it. The Zebra cable is unserved for the majority of where the cable runs in the track as you come to full draw, but the WC is served there with a pretty thick serving, hence the cable doesn't quite "bottom out" ...This causes a slight reduction in peak weight, letoff, and valley/draw length, hence the drop in speed. Before the change to WC, I was shooting a 380 grain arrow @ 267 FPS and the 397 grain arrow @ 261-262 FPS.

I would say, you would be shooting around 266 to 270 FPS w/ your 29.5" draw, 392 grain arrow and brass nock (assuming Zebra cables/string) @ 60 pounds.

As BD said, you'd run about 15-20 FPS faster with the 70 pound limbs with the same arrow weight.

A month or so ago we got the Pat SC 04 60# & it would jack up to 63#. Where we hunt we need all the speed we can get. I had been told when the 60# bow, when adjusted for arrow weight, would not shoot 3 or 4 fps less than the 70#. It did not turn out that way, & there were protest.

Someone on this forum (do not remember who, a senior moment I guess) said, after they got the Pat 04 SC 60# it jacked up to 64#. But it did not get the speed of a 70# Pat 04 backed off to 62#.

So I called & ask about this, & Bowtech says no, they say as all other companies say their bow shoots best jacked all the way up.

But I ordered the 70# limbs anyways just to make sure we are not missing something. That was over a week ago & I have not received the limbs yet. As much as we complained about the Bow they may be refusing to sell us the 70# limbs.

dwaasp I have mentioned it before and it may be your best bet to get additional speed while still keeping draw weight in the mid sixty pound range. Providing your bow was assembled with the standard limb pivot, you could get a set of tall limb pivots available from Bowtech installed behind your 60 lb limbs that would increase draw weight approx. 3-4 lbs this in conjunction with the additional pre-stress and slimmer and lighter limb profile should yield velocities very close to the bow set up with 70 lb limbs while only drawing 66 lbs.
The cost of the pivots is approx. $2. Make sure you press the bow to remove the limbs as backing the limb bolts all the way out will damage the limbs.
Good luck

On my Outback it consistently changes 2 fps per pound. So I would say there would be a 20 fps difference between 60 and 70 pounds.

Thanks Bowtech Duelly:

Bowtech did mention the tall limb pivots; they just said it would increase the weight 3-4 lbs & seam to say the speed would be increased in proportion to the weight gain: But did not put it in the framework of pre-stress and slimmer and lighter limb profile should yield velocities very close to the bow set up with 70 lb limbs while only drawing 66 lbs.

If I had heard that statement initially we would have tried it first & that would be cheaper, now guess that will be the second trick to be tried.

This does sound good to me though, & I will try it whether or not Bowtech indicate, the slimmer and lighter limb profile would bring it above the simple weight gain ratio, of arrow speed.

First of all you don't live in Falls Church, put Arlington in your profile.

Still hung up on the FPS gig? What speed will make your confidence at its peak?

You'll be fine John with wichever you buy. You shoot well enough that you should not worry about those 30 yard'ers. How many ,besides the one deer did we shoot at alast year 30 or beyond?
