Default NEW TO BOARD Have a couple questions

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am new to this board. This seems like a really great message board.
I do have some questions I could use some help and some things I am just curious about.
I bowhunted for several years back in the late 80's and early 90's when I was a kid with a Bear Whitetail II. Those were the days. LOL

I got back into bowhunting years ago and bought a PSE Fireflight one cam bow. This is the bow I am hunting with now. Technology has really advanced the bows these days. Anyways this year I bought a Trophy Ridge Micro Matrix Guide series sight and a Trophy Ridge Drop Zone rest for the PSE. I am shooting easton xx75 2315 arrows (550gr). The PSE is shooting 248fps which gives me around 75 ft/p of kinetic energy which I believe to be great.

I am wondering if it would be ok to shoot carbon arrows with this bow?
The sticker on the bow says min 420gr arrow.

Another question...... Can you speed up the drop on the TR Drop Zone rest? If so how.
I bought the 2 TR products and had them put on at a shop so I dont have the instructions.
I would also like some help tuning this bow to get the best performance possible out of it.
The shop let me paper tune the bow one time and said it was good. After looking closely at the paper I think it could get better.
Any and all suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Oh and one more thing.
I am getting great grouping at 20 yds with field points
But when I shoot my broadheads (Thunderhead 125's) they are all shooting to the left. Is this called windplaining? And how do I fix it.
Is it best to just go with mechanical BH's to correct this problem?

First of all, welcome to the board! Alot of great info here...no doubt about it. If you're starting where you are, however, you may want to spend some time studying Easton's tuning guide.

It can be found here:
http://www.eastonarchery.com/downloads/pdfs/tuning_guide.zip

It'll give you quite a bit of info and a place to start comprehending some of the answers you'll get on this board better.

Good luck!

Fritz

Welcome! I'm not one of the bow tuning gurus around here but I can tell you that you can definitely shoot carbons with that bow.

Funny my Firestorm has the same sticker and I shoot a 29.75" GT 7595 shaft with a 125g head(total arrpw weight 449.58g). Depending on how much weight you pull and how long your draw length and arrow length is you shouldn't have any problems getting to 420g. You may have to shoot a 125g head to get there though.

Not that I'm aware of. Not to worry though. I'm shooting around 270fps on my PSE and I also shoot a DZ. So far I've had 0 clearence problems. Don't worry, it'll get out of the way. If you need the instructions for the DZ you can pm me with a fax or address and I'll send you a copy of mine.

It may be plaining but as Fritz suggested get the tunning guide and get familar with it. It will become a close friend. The section on broadhaed tunning will certainly be of use if you're getting good groups with field points.

And I almost forgot, Thanks for joining us

Thanks guys for the quick replies and info.
I printed the easton arrow tunning and maintenance guide.
Ok I found the broadhead tuning part.....it says if the BH grouping is to the left on the same plain you should: increase bow poundage (mine is at peak weight), increase BH weight (I shot 125g), decrease tension in cushion plunger (dont have one, using a TR drop zone rest), or move rest in toward the bow @ 1/32" adjustments at a time.

So I will try to move the DZ rest in and see if this helps. Will moving the rest in not affect the field point grouping? Or will have to resight my bow?

The marks on the TR Drop zone rest are how far apart? 1/16"?

I will be the first to say I dont know anything about tuning my bow. I wish I did and I hope to learn how.
The thing is I dont think any of the little shops around me do either.
When I took my bow to the shop to get the rest and sight put on the guy just put on a new string, the sight and the rest and just kinda eye balled everything and said here. He had me shoot through the paper at about 3 ft one time and said looks good.

I think my bow can shoot better than it is but dont know where to start really. Should I start by shooting through paper at different distances and see what the holes look like? what distance should you paper tune at? 3ft to what?
Thanks
Scott

Instead of making the rest drop faster, you want it to pick up later. This means lengthening the cord to the bus cable very slightly. Have a friend mark you arrow where the rest just starts to pick up, and another mark at the rest contact point at full draw. By making the rest pick up later, the rest will start to drop earlier in the power stroke. Just make sure that the rest is coming all of the way up at full draw. Takes some time, but I have my Dalton picking up about 2-3 inches on the arrow from being at full draw.

Welcome to the board, hope you learn as much as I have from the members.

WA Shooter,

Thanks for the tip on the rest. I now have it raising my arrow just in time for the broadhead not to hit my shelf and the rest raises all the way up at full draw. Thanks

Now I just need some help tuning my bow in time for season.
