Default shooting my new bow

well, did my first shooting over the weekend. Shot Friday afternoon. Did a three groups of three at 10 yds and was feeling pretty good, socking 'em right in there. Backed up to 20 yds, groups not as tight, but not flailing all over the place. Only swacked my bow arm with the string once. Shot Sunday morning while camping and was all over the place at 10 yds. (twenty also, but I was stupid and started at 20 when I should have started at 10) Printed up a bunch of the sighting targets on fastestbows.com and stuck them on the target. I stuck pieces of duct tape in the four squares. I was hitting in the larger squares that I was aiming, but not getting close to the duct tape in the center of each square. I am pretty sure this was due to bad form\technique. Once I settled my trigger hand down, i.e. not jerking it away from my face just holding it there I noticed that I am having trouble with my bow arm as I seem to be jerking the bow after the release. I was shooting alone on Sunday so didn't have anyone to assess my form. My buddy on Friday noticed a couple of things I was doing, gripping the bow too hard, and then "overdrawing" the bow, i.e. I pull the string back to the sweet spot, then pull just a little further, I think this might be peep sight related I don't know, will work on that tonight. I am cradling the bow in the notch between my thumb and forefinger and there is some pressure there. I have been trying to keep my fingers from wrapping around the grip, sometimes I will just lightly touch my thumb and index finger. Should I hold the bow differently in my hand? When I did have some good groups on Sunday, I seemed to be consistently 2-2.5 inches high but good on the windage. I haven't even tried to adjust my sights, more worried about form and function then equipment at this point. Shooting 60 lbs with a 29" draw, constantly reminding myself, aim small miss small.

Default RE: shooting my new bow

It sounds like you are going the right direction.Keep working on the form.Don't concern yourself with hitting that perfect spot yet.Keep working on your form,if your form is consistant and you are consistantly aiming for the same spot your groups will get tight.Do you use a kisser button?I will help give you another positive anchor while you are learning proper form.Good luck
