Default Autumn Orange XX75

hey, anyone remember these? i have a few that i am going to be hunting with this season. i bought a couple dozen when i found out they were going to be discontinuing them. i used them for target practice, but when hunting, i used the xx75 camo hunters. after a season or two, i went to a different shaft size and they were put away. but this season, i will be breaking them out again. only this time i'll be hunting with them. a couple of questions...does anyone remember what the straightness tolerance specs were on the autumn oranges? also, they sure are shiny! should i worry about deer spotting them in the sun? if so, what can i do to subdue that shine, paint maybe? i dunno...any help will be greatly appreciated.

All I can tell you is that I used to use them also. They always worked fine for me. As far as trying to get them not to shine, I really don't know. I wouldn't really advise you to put anything on that would make them heavier or anything. Maybe scuff them up with some very fine sandpaper.

I've been toting a major grudge against Easton ever since they discontinued the Autumn Orange shafts. They are still my all-time favorites. Closest they've got now is the Yukon shaft, XX75 w/unibushings.

The tolerances on the Autumn Oranges were exactly the same as XX75 camo hunters were. The only difference was the color.

Two things about the shine. First, STAY YOUR SILLY SELF IN THE SHADOWS! [8D] Second, rub some paste wax on 'em and don't wipe it off. The wax haze will cut the reflections to near nothing.

yeah, why in the world did they discontinue them i wonder? i really liked them for target shooting...plus, i think they are really nice looking arrows once they are fletched up. anyway...

of course this is always the goal, but sometimes its hard when stalking your prey...

Oh my goodness... You don't know what paste wax is? Am I getting that freakin' old?? Reminds me of a couple of years ago when I walked into the music store, saw nothing but cassettes and CDs, so I asked the pretty young lady where their LP's were. "They don't make those any more, SIR!"[:-]

There was a time when people waxed their cars by hand instead of having it sprayed on at the automated car wash. They still carry it in the automotive section of Wally World, I guess for the benefit of us old goats.

You don't believe that camo shafts reflect light? They do.

We used the Orange and Solid Green Easton shafts for years. I do not recall anyone ever saying the shine on his or her shaft spooked a deer. I supposed it could happen. However, your shaft is not the only light reflecting material in the timber.

Much of the camo and ghosting gear that has evolved is more for the appeal to the human eye and hiding from each other, than wild game.

If Easton would make an International-Orange shaft with a dull finish, I would use them in a minute.

don't get me wrong, i fully realize that the camo shafts shine. but i don't think they shine as brightly as the autumn orange shafts...i mean, these babies shine! lol. it might be the reflective nature of the color. i don't know...but i do agree with that easton needs to come up with a dull colored aluminum shaft of some kind. i would shoot them also. how about the yukons? does anyone know how shiny they are? i've never seen one in my hand, just on the net and in magazines.

You oughta see the last batch of cedar arrows I made up for my longbow, C! I wanted to stain them orange but wound up having wipe them down with thinned orange acrylic paint. Put a couple of coats of poly over the acrylic. Topped 'em off with 5" shields - orange hens and a red cock feather - with a flo orange nock. Trust me... them suckahs is ORANGE. They sure don't get lost in the grass.[8D]

I always opted for the orange shafts when I shot aluminums--when I could find them. They were cheaper and a lot easier to find after passing through a deer.
