Default Is my Drawlength a little long?

When I shoot my bow every once in awhile my string just barely nicks the upper part of my forearm. I then have to remind myself to bend my elbow so this doesn't happen. I'm shooting a bow with a 27 inch draw and a string loop and I'm 5'7"-5'8". I never really "slap" my arm like some people do, infact it doesn't even leave a mark or affect my accuracy, I just don't want it to hit my clothes while hunting. Thanks-Sam

There are a few possible problems, including too long of a drawlength. You could also be shooting a bow with a brace height which is too short for you, positioning your hand improperly on the grip or torquing the bow on release. Unfortunately, there is no way to know given the info in your post.

Many years ago, I had a problem with string slap that went away forever when I simply made sure my knuckles on my bow hand, were rotated to form a 45 degree angle. I do not bend my elbow, nor would I recommend anyone else do it unless they have perfected shooting that way.

Default RE: Is my Drawlength a little long?

Here's a little "Rule of Thumb" I use to troubleshoot my draw length.

"________Draw length troubleshooting:__________
A) If your draw length is too long your sight should float and never really stop. On too long of a draw length your misses will not be as far from the center but they will tend to be one side to the other without any consistency.

B) If your draw length is too short your sight
may momentarily stop but when it moves it is herky/jerky. On a too short draw length your misses will tend to be further from the center.

C) If your draw length is correct (in theory) your sight will stop momentarily and the movement will be slower and reduced."

Hope this helps. Be safe.
