Default New Bow Questions

Hi everyone! I just joined the forum! I LOVE bowhunting so this will be fun.

For the last 4 years I have been shooting a GoldenEagle Revolution. The bow has treated me great and I shot several dear with it. I shot well in an archery tournament last year, but I still want to get a new bow for some reason. This one is too heavy.

I have been doing a little research, but just started looking around, there are alot of great bows out there right now. ALot of them have caught my eye, but the 2 that I am most interested in are the Renegade and Archer Research companies. What do you feel about these bows. I absolutely love the feel of the renegade bow! only 3 lbs! and I have read alot of good stuff about the AR company. I know mathew's is one of the best, but I want to try somthing else, especially because of cost. What do you guys think?

ALso, how do you feel about getting too short with the bows? Is a 31 inch axle-->axle too short? does it matter? WHat about draw length, I like shooting short draw length's so I can shoot in more awkward positions if I have to, does this slow a bow down?

Thanks

Default RE: New Bow Questions

Welcome to the boards. Are you using your bow for hunting only? Do you shoot 3-D or indoors? I personally do not have any experience with the 2 bows you mentioned. I would recommend shooting as many bows as you can get your hands on before making a decision. One will stand out! (You will be doing yourself a great disservice if you do not throw Bowtech into the mix ) Shorter axle to axle bows have their place but are not for everyone. I personally do not like anything shorter than 32", but may fit you perfectly. As far as draw length goes, you should try to stay pretty close to the wing span method if possible. (finger tip to finger tip -15 divided by two.) This isn't exact, but is a good starting point. Shorter draw lengths does slow the bow down some, but IMO it is far more important to be properly fit than picking up a few extra fps.
