Default Rocket Broadheads

What do you guys think of rocket broadheads? I have used spitfires in the past & I really think they sucked (if you use them please don't get mad at me!). I don't want to judge all mech. heads by the poor performance I got from the spitfires. (before people attack me I get 68ft. lbs. of KE)

I've been shooting Rocket heads almost exclusively since 1997......Wolverines, Miniblasters, SIdewinders.
I've had absolutely nothing but success with every one......The Miniblaster has been my "Go To" head.
They worked very well out of my Mathews Ultra MAx at 69 ft lbs of KE.....pass thru after pass thru and the deer don't make it very far.

Last year I tried a new creation of putting a "Pathfinder" tip on a Miniblaster for a better performing tip with the 1 3/4" cut along with the 90+ grs I was looking for.

I took 2 deer with them, both pass thrus and quickly dead deer......one didn't have a full width entrance hole. The first time ever with a Rocket head out of a dozen deer taken with them. I think the large cutting surface of that tip punched too big of an initial hole to allow the blades to grab anything before it entered......they opened fully just in and a full exit hole.
For next year I'm going to modify this set-up a bit and use the "3L" blades to ensure a full width entrance. I may even go to a 4 blade version......since I have the extra luxury of 88ft lbs of KE now!

I've never had a single failure with them, and neither have 2 of my friends who also shoot them.
They aren't always super sharp right out of the package however so you may need to touch the blades up a bit.
I trust them fully and will continue to use them.

Although I am more of a fixed blade man myself I can tell you that I have had great success also with Rockets. Sidewinder, Hammerhead 3L, and a modified steelhead that I attached 1 3/4" blades to. The most devastating head on tissue that I have ever used was the Hammerhead 3L. I put the pathfinder tip on the Hammerhead and it didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference in my testing or in the kills. The half dozen of the kills that I remember taking with the Rockets were complete pass throughs.

I thought I should add that these heads don't hold up well if you use them for practice. Even if you tie them closed the hinge pins are to fragile to take much of a beating.

Which one of the Rocket replacement blades makes the cutting diameter of the Steelhead 1 3/4 inches?

I use the Steelhead 100s and I can't say enough about them. They always perform and outpenetrate just about every other expandable head on the market and some fixed blade heads as well...given adequate kinetic energy and proper tuning.

In my opinion Rocket makes the best mech. broadhead! I have used the sidewinders, Mini-blaster 3L's, and now am using the steelhead. All three have worked great!

I love the Hammerhead from Rocket , it has worked great for me Matt/Pa, what is your setup that you are getting 88 ft lb.'s with?

Pa. I was telling Greg Johnson how I liked his idea of a one piece head but would like a larger cut than the steelhead provides so he sent some blades that looked to me to belong to the miniblaster-3 which I attached to a steelhead 125. Although it worked, the head itself should have been a little longer to match the blades.

I think the guys above have talked 'em up pretty good and I totally agree.Rockets are bullets with butterfly wings.

DoubleLung,
I'm shooting a BowTech Pro38 Dual Cam this year, which is shooting a 350gr arrow at 336fps.....88ft lbs of KE.
My Mighty Mite was giving me 76ft lbs or so with that same arrow at 318fps.
Obviously I'm gonna hunt with heavier arrows, but the KE levels are the same.....they should actually go up just a hair.
I might just lace a boxing glove onto an XX78 2315 and shoot em' in the forehead!

The only deer I have killed was with the Rocket miniblasters. HUGE HOLE! I was hunting with a very good, very successful bowhunter on that day, and when he came to my stand so we could "track it" he said he had never seen a blood trail like that. It looked like you dumped the blood out of a bucket. I shot the 6 pointer through the brisket, quartering to me, and he only went about 20 yards into some thick brush. The hole was as big as a silver doller.

I personally am going to try the Muzzy 100's this year, but have no c/o about the Rockets killing power.
