Default People that don't tune your bows

DONT USE MECHANICAL BROADHEADS! Tune your bows properly and you don't need them. My outrage comes from 2 people shooting 80lbs of draw weight, mechanical broadheads and letting 2 boars get away because of their stupidity. I have a son that shots 30lbs with regular broadheads(Magnus 100gr. 2 blades), 11 years old that took home a bigger boar then these 2 let get away. His arrow was recoved 5 yards from were he shot the boar. Please tune your bows and be ethical. Any questions on how to do it and i will tell you how i do it. I have an 11 year old son that is on a pie plate at 35 yards, at 11. I don't care if you learn my way as long as you do it. Finally they were shooting 310 fps and he is shooting 160fps. SPEED IS OVERRATE. Accuracy first speed second.

First, welcome to the board. If you spend enough time around here you will see that there are many people who REALY know their stuff. You should do a search, there have been many coversations similar to this, speed vs momentum, etc.

BTW, I agree(with the speed is over rated part)

people are very quick to blame the broadhead if they cant find the animal they shot.It does not matter what the arrow is tipped with if it is coming out of the bow sideways.

It doesn't sound like the broadhead had anything to do with them recovering their game. I would guess it has more to do with the loose screw behind the peep. Sorry Rack, I couldn't resist.

I'm with you, Rack. I use both mechanicals and a lot of different fixed heads. Then again, I had a pretty good PRO tune my bow. I'd lean more to the probability that the culprit was poor equipment combined with poor shooting.

While I also welcome you to the forum, lecturing on your first posts may not sit well with a lot of the members. Sometimes it's not what you say, but how you say it. I personally pick and choose my words to try to keep 'out of trouble'.

We are here to learn from each other; and, I welcome you in hopes that we can share information.

The reason I am against mechanical broadheads is this. Anyone who says that penetration of a mechanical broadhead is equal to a fixed blade is wrong. If you tune your bow properly fixed blades fly the same as field points, or mechanicals. Why use mechanical broadheads? If the bow is properly tuned they fly no better and penetrate less then fixed blades. They are a fast fix, for not spending the time to tune. With that said, when i say be ethical i do think that most people that shot mechanical broadheads are not eithical. There are many of you that are ethical, you have the ability to properly tune your bow and the ability to shot it well. Why you use mechanical heads i don't know but that is another story. The reason im against them is simple most people who use them, use them so they don't have to spend time they are lazy.
