If you really think you're on to something, talk to a patent lawyer and find out how best to protect your conception. From their, assuming you don't have the capital to bring the product to market and take your best shot, best bet is to look at current companies marketing similar items (if your's is simply and improvement) or compatible items, contact them and see if they are interested in hearing what you have and buying the rights to the idea as well as paying you a royalty on product sales.
I came up with the Morrel Bionic Buck idea and contacted Delta, who was glad to pay me a royalty (and said they had done so in the past on other products) except unfortunately, Morrel was just launching his product, hadn't even advertised it anywhere. I figure he beat me by 6 months, the
