Default Copper John Deadnuts Users

I am currently using a Copper John Deadnuts Pro and love it. But I was just thinking. How far foreward does everyone mount theirs. Mine is back as far towards the shooter a possible, and I was thinking of moving mine foreward(away from the shooter). My question is, is their any advantage to having the sight farther away from your eye? Does it help in alignment with your peep? I've been bored lately due to the horrible weather here in the northeast and have been tinkering with my setup, maybe a little too much according to my wife.

I'm currently keeping mine at full extension. It has the effect of making the pins appear smaller which is good for indoor shooting. The target/pin focal point seems to be easier to maintain as well. I'm not sure what I'll do for hunting, but one thing I KNOW I'll do is get that cover they're coming out with to protect the fibers.

Where in State College do you live? I spent more wasted time up there than I'd like to (or can for that matter) remember. Thank god for branch campuses!

Oh no, a Penn State graduate. [:-]

I agree with Fritz. The farther you mount the sight away from the bow then the smaller the pin head looks. This allows you to pick a smaller spot to aim at on a target...or animal, though it can also leave more of the sight exposed to be caught on brush, etc... On a typical 3D course or indoor target range this is not much of a concern but during a hunting trip is an entirely different story.

I don't have the pro model but rather just the hunter. I have it set at its farthest extension away from the riser for 3D but will probably move it in closer for hunting.

The farther out front it is the more accurate it can be. However, you will preceive more pin motion, than when it is closer.

MrFritz44, I live right in town by the YMCA if you know where that is. I'm not a PSU Grad technically. I graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport (AKA Redneck Tech) which is sort of a Branch Campus of PSU. But I do bleed Blue and White!!! I'll have to put my sight farther out and give that a try. Might be intersting with the .19 pins.

Hey PA Hardwoods DRUNK! [X(]

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I lived with my now wife out at Southgate apartments for a couple years before a much needed stint in the military. I got in shape in that YMCA before heading off to boot camp. Got outta the Coasties, took the GI Bill, and got my degree at the Allentown campus. My concentration seemed to be greater after a few years of that. I hear I'm not the only one it's had that effect on.

Good luck with the sight,

Fritz

I hope I get this right. When I set mine up the further I set the pin from my eye the smaller the pin gap. The smaller the gap the more consistent I am when gap shooting. I also aligned my pep to the same size as the orange ring. When I look threw my peep at full draw it perfectly out lines the ring guard. This helps me with consistency. I have mt HTM site set up the same way on another bow. JERRY

Thanks for the info guys, Hey Fritz great one, you had me in stitches with that one. My brother says that alot and it always cracks me up.

Thanks Jerry, I'll keep that in mind I'm excited to give it a try. I moved it all the way out tonight, but unfortunately it is pretty crappy outside tonight so I didn't drive to the shop to shoot. Hopefully I can get there soon I can see how it could help my shooting though.

I recently picked up a Spot Hogg "Hogg It" & have it mounted pretty far out. I haven't had a chance to shoot with it mounted yet (waiting for new string) but I like the way it makes the .019 pins appear even smaller. I figure I'll shoot it this way for 3D & then pull it back in a little for hunting in the fall.

Hey PA Hardwoods,
Are you close enough to Lock Haven to have visited Hunter's Archery & if so, what do you think about the TechnoHunt? I was up there visiting my bro-in-law last fall. If it weren't for the 8 hour drive (each way) I think I'd be in there all winter long.
