Default Replacement Fiber optic pins...

I've stated this before, but I am primarily a bowhunter, so please respond in that frame of mind...

I have an RS Glo site on my bow. Absolutely nothing wrong with the site body or mount, has dovetail adjustments, and has proven itself rugged and dependable. The site pins are another matter. They utilize a short (about 1.5&quot piece of fiber optic that loops behind the pin body, and don't stay tight or flush within the pin body. I want to replace them...

The site body accepts 3/16" slotted site pins. What do you feel is the best replacement pin on the market for this type of site body? What about pin diameter for a bowhunting rig? I am looking hard at the Truglo tritium lit fiber optic pin, but can't find enough info on it yet to be comfortable...

Any suggestions?

And while we're at it, what color fiber optic do you think is the best for all around use (assuming at low light levels the fiber is tritium powered, so low light fade out isn't a problem)? What size fiber? A small micro-dot to give a precision aiming point or a larger more visible size?

Ok, Cabelas (where my gift cert moolah is) only has the truglo tritium pin in yellow and .040 diameter... Anyone use a yellow pin for hunting? Savage's website says yellow is best for low light... How about normal daylight? Hello (hello hello...) Is there anyone out there (out there out there...)? Why do I get the feeling I'm typing to myself...

Don't know much about your sight. For hunting I use a $20 Tru-Glo from walmart with 3 fiber optic pins. I wouldn't recommend it for repeated pounding from shooting 3-D's/practice all spring and summer. For colors, I've found that the light green will show up better in the last few minutes of light vs. red that seem to disappear sooner.

If you have a good Pro Shop, they can replace just the f/o element. If you only deal with Cabela's, I don't know what to tell you.

We replace individual f/o elements and/or pins for customers all the time.

I have a couple of the green tritium site pins on my old sight, just got the matrix. drop me a e mail and I can give you a deal if you are interested. they are the .40 which is all I could find at the time. I just got them about three months ago. they do stay bright longer than the normal F.O pins.

I use an Archer's Choice sight that has the 3/16" pins. The pins, which are available through Cabelas(2001 archery catalog, bottom of page 39), have a fiber optic wrap.

These pins seem plenty bright to me and are tough. The fiber optics are wrapped around a steel pin; there is nothing hanging out to get caught in branches. The green is much brighter, IMO. And they are cheap enough so that you can buy an extra or two in case of a disaster.

Hello RB. Tinkering again I see. I suppose since your pro shop burned down it does cramp your ability to try some things. As far as the tritium pins I can't comment but as far as color of fiber optics green has a definite advantage for me. If the only problem with your fiber is it not staying seated in your pin a small dab of super glue or hard as nails etc. should keep it in place. If you want to try different diameter pins I ordered replacement fiber optic stock in sets of 3 colors ( green, red, yellow) I think about 8" long and just cut to length I need. They came in diameters of .019, .029 & .039. I will have to check for sure if you need to know but I think I ordered from Bullseye Sights and cost maybe $7.00 -$8.00 per set. I changed all mine out to the largest size due to my ageing eyes and trifocal glasses but now that I am playing around with the local 3D shoots I may have to go to smaller pins. Guess you haven't sent the Hornet off for a tuneup yet. Good luck and happy tinkering.

Tritium pins work. They are pricey.I use .40 yellow for 25yds and up.30,35 and 40 are yellow and green in .19 diameter.Don't use red for hunting anymore..40 pins gather more light than finer pins. Also more fibre length helps.Best pins?,I shoot Toxonics sights but the pins sure do look like Truglo's.Also had good luck with Montana Black Gold pins and sights. They come with a life time warrenty.
