Default Have you seen this yet?

http://www.trueflightfeathers.com/news.htm

Some really interesting info on feathers, including high speed capture pics of thier performance following a collision.

Interesting read...

I'd seen the high speed photos before but never read the entire piece. Maybe comparing an arrow to a 747 is reaching a little too far?

One thing that I'd never noticed in the photos before... Did you notice how consitent the rotation of the nocks is in all three scenarios? Each nock is rotated practically the the same at all stages. That shows how little each collision with the feathers affected the arrow's flight. Wish they'd put up some pics of the same test with vanes for a comparison.

Yeah, but think of the KE and Momentum that thing would bring...

A comparison against vanes would be good. They have something like that on the site somewhere, but not the collision pics. Heck, the vane deformation just from release is scary enough I also wish they would elaborate on how their homemade less than $200 high speed picture taking contraption. The quality seem exceptional...

I have to agree with rangeball and arthurp in that I would also like to see a comparison with vanes hitting a branch. It is amazing how consistent the nock rotation in though. Thanks for posting.

Yeah I saw this several weeks ago. Feathers are the ultimate AFAIC for flight & accuracy. Vanes are mostly for fletching time convenience AFAIC.

You SOB's are gonna have me going back to feathers.
At least I really don't have a weather related excuse since I use a Catquiver.

Jeff,
I guess feathers are the "ultimate for flight and accuracy" or through evolution, birds would be flying around with Flex Fletch stamped on their wings.

Heh.. don't laugh..that's the new fad for all the "cool" pigeons down in NYC.

Fletched up my 3-71's yesterday w/ some Trueflight 3" RW feathers in a helical.

NOW IF THE FRIGGIN BOW I PLAN TO USE THEM IN WOULD JUST ARRIVE![:@]
