...take cams from one manufacturer and put them on a different manufacturer' s bow?
Assuming you worked the cable and string issues out, what else would prevent it? I mean, 70# limbs are 70# limbs, right? As far as cams being built for specific bow geometry, I' m not sure I buy that, as within one manufacturer they use the same cam on a myriad of bows with big differences in brace, ATA, etc.
What prevents one from doing this, besides voiding the warranty ?

I have a bow with a Golden Eagle Natural Series Riser, Alpine split limbs, and Oregon Black Knight cams. It is fast, quiet, and as accurate as I can shoot.
It took me 3 tries with string/cable lengths to get what I was after, then ordered a string/cable set from Tailor Made Strings.
I do not like this bow quite as much as my Bowtech, but I do like it better than many bows that I have owned. I may have a little problem with objectivity, though.

It can be done, and is done quite often. I know of a couple guys that use Martin Fury-X cams on their bows. However, not all cams and limbs are created equal. Martin has created a new shoot-through cam to replace the Fury-X called a Nitrous cam. Because of the different characteristics of the two cams Martin now has to use a slightly heavier limb to achieve the same poundage as compared to the Fury-X cam.
You had me thinking enough about this that I almost bid on a set of Hoyt Cam.5s that sold last night on ebay. If I wasn' t so pleased with my Bowtech, I may have done it. I also figured that my bows that currently peak out at 65# would only make 55# with the Cam.5, plus all of the cable/string experimenting, etc.[X(]
I am seriously leaning in a very strange direction (for guys on this forum), and plan on using the exact same setup for 2004 that I am currently using, switching only the arrows (to ACCs).

Ditto on that one Joe PA (nice name by the way). I' ll be using my 2002 bowtech bK2 with 60lb limbs and the tall brace for several years to come. Check out my pic thread on the hunting threads to get a peek of the penetration this thing gives out. I also have a newly acquired 2003 pro40 dually for dirt cheap on ebay...all kinds of 2003' s are going for dirt cheap right now. It' s a 28 inch draw and I need a 29.5. So it might be a couple months before I even get that setup. Once I do I' ll be using that for hunting as well.

As the others have stated, it is generally a matter of trial and error. If you have the time and resources to pursue this matter then there really is not a reason that it would not work in various circumstances.
