Default Fiber optic halo affect?

It seems that every manufacturer advertises their pins as the brightest available. Some have several feet of fiber to collect light. It would seem to me that if these sights are indeed so bright, they would cause a halo affect in low light conditions. I' ve never used one, so I' m just hypothesizing.

I had a Tasco red dot with a 4 moa dot and 11 brightness settings. In low light, even at the lowest setting the halo affect prevented all but close range shots.

My Savage Pendulum Max has a 2" (I' m guesstimating) fiber pin. I chose yellow, as it gives a good blend of daylight and low light visibility. Even though it' s not advertised as being super bright, I get a halo effect when shooting in low light.

So, what' s the answer? Is this even a problem for you guys with the cutting edge super bright fiber optic sights? If so how do you deal with it?

Rangeball,

I have an HHA Optimizer with the green fiber optic. I have had no problem with halo' s, and I have tried it in alot of different light inside and outside. I have been told the red will give a halo, but havnt seen it for myself.

Rangeball,I know exactly what you' re talking about, and I have a bunch of extra sights in my drawer to prove it.After all that,I second the vote for the HHA Optimizer Lite 5000,it has a green fiber optic pin that my 46 year old eyes see with no halos,in all kinds of light...Bob

I used to shoot a true-glo. It was my first fiber optic sight. It had a red, green, and yellow pin set. I also noticed that the red was a problem with a halo effect. I now shoot an HHA optimizer with green and love it. Great hunting sight and no halo. My experience is that if it is light enough to make out a deer' s outline, you can see the green pin with absolutely no problem. As a matter of fact, last year I had a deer below my stand before light. I could already see the pin before I could really make out the deer well enough for a good shot.
