Default truths about shooting from a stand??

I' ve heard from many people that shooting from a stand is different and that your arrows won' t be hitting in the same spot when comparing to shooting from level ground. i' ve only recently got into bow bunting and have practiced from a climbing stand, but notice no real difference in my accuracy. Is there much truth to this? Thanks.

The truth comes from the Angle you are shooting your bow. From ground level... Your arm is apporiximatley 90 Degress from your body, when you get into your stand the degree made shrinks considerabley. To make a 90 degree angle once agian, bend at your waist, keeping your upper body angle the same as it was form the ground. Although you dont see much differance now, practice this. It should keep accuracy dead on.

I agree with the above post that you must try and maintain the 90 degree angle, but just make sure that you are paying attention to where your arrow would be exiting the animal. If you are 20 feet up and the animal is 15 yards out you want to try and get your entry and exit through the vitals. Try and do alot of practice from your stand with a deer shaped target and not just a plain target that way you will get to learn you angles.

I imagine a spot centered between both lungs directly below the spine. Then I visualize the angle the arrow must follow to bisect that spot. On level ground the arrow follows the same elevation from entry to exit through that spot. From a tree stand the arrow must enter higher and exit lower than that spot depending on the relative elevation to garantee getting both lungs . I also do it on quartering shots entering and exiting either in front or behind relative to the spot between the lungs. I have found my impact point is slightly higher for a given range when shooting down as opposed to level ground so I normally put my pin on the same spot whether level or not unless it' s an extreme downward angle that I have to adjust for. Hope this helps.

I' m no where near an expert on this matter, but what was previously mentioned is excellent advice. My .02 is to put up a stand in your yard if you have the land and a suitable tree, then shoot into a 3D deer. If no big trees, a flat garage roof will do the trick.

My parents have 8 acres so I had the luxury of hanging a stand in a huge black walnut tree that' s just under 25 yards from the stables. I then put up hay in front of the stables and my 3D deer in front of that. I shoot on the ground anywhere from 10 yards out to 40 yards, but won' t shoot over 30 when hunting. Shooting from the stand into a 3D deer a lot really helps you see EXACTLY where your arrow will go through the deer. Sorry for being longwinded..

The above info is excellent. From my experience, you will typically find yourself hitting slightly high from a stand. The reason for this is because of what has already been stated. You will drop your bow arm without thinking, and this will cause your anchor point to be off. As a result, you hit higher. As stated above, bend at the waist, this keeps your anchor more consistant. I try to draw my bow level, get my anchor, then bend at the waist to put me on target.

I' ve always sighted my bow in on flat ground but when i got in the tree and if the deer was say 10 yards i' d aim lower but 20 yards i could just put my 20 yd. pin and it would hit as if i was shooting form the ground.
