Default Savage Derringer Quiet Draw arrow rest?

Does anyone shoot this rest or have experience with it? I' d like to hear pro' s and con' s regarding this rest. I saw it in the Cabelas catalog and it looks to be a very slim, small profile, astheticly pleasing rest, with no cables or linkage. Does it work well? I have no experience with Savage Systems products. Thanks.

Been using one for 2 years now,,like most anything else it has it' s pro' s & con' s.On mine,,in order to keep it from dropping at the slightest bump or shake of the bow,,it sometimes won' t drop as the arrow is released..Other than that I have no complaints..On my other hand tho,,that alone is enough that I' m thinkin seriously about going to another brand of drop away that uses a cable to bring the rest up..One other thing,,1st deer I shot at with mine he jumped the string..I grunted this buck up from a bunch of deer that I saw about a hundred yards out..As I was sittin there kickin my own rear end for missin,,here came another buck..Quickly grabbing another arrow I bleated this one to a stop at 15 yards & dang near shot his back hoof off..Moral of the story,,don' t forget to reset the rest back up into position..Not hard to do in the heat of A moment..

My dad and I have been using the drop away version for 3 years now. I have shot at least 5 deer with mine on and had no problems. I did have one on a bow shooting 283fps and it didn' t seem to drop quite quick enough. I like the fact of no cables or ropes to worry about and it was very easy to set up.

Wolf, I can give you a very honest opinion on the derringer based on not only my experience but 4 other guys experience also. Three years ago myself and 4 others all ordered a Derringer rest. Myself and 3 of the other guys are hardcore bowhunters and the other guy was new to bowhunting and getting it for his first bow. The following season only one of us was still shooting one. the new guy, and he has yet to hunt with the bow. I can honestly say it was one of the most dissapointing products I have ever bought. The other 3 guys would tell you the same thing. There were so many negatives with this rest to me. Timberjack hit on 2 of them. It was hard getting the sensitivity set well. Sometimes it would drop if you tapped your bow against something ( not good when shifting around for a shot in a treestand). Other times it wouldn' t hardly fall at all. Then you have to reset it every shot. That can be a problem if you need a second shot and you are in the heat of the moment. On three of ours, mine included, the magnet fell out. Luckily mine stuck to rest so I found it right away. One guy spent an hour crawling around his yard until he found his. The other guy had a worse ending with his. He lost his on the way to his stand. Halfway through his afternoon hunt he saw that it was gone. He had some does around him so he couldn' t get down. He had to set the rest of the evening praying that a nice buck wouldn' t show up because he wouldn' t be able to shoot. He ripped it off that night and went back to his TM hunter for the rest of that season. Three of us still shoot dropaways. I and another guy shoot a Zero Effect, another a NAP Quicktune. The other one shoots a Whisker Biscuit. I don' t like to slam products, but this is one product that I could never recomend based on my experience. There are so many great drop aways out there now. I have help set up and seen most of them in action, and the Derringer is by far the worst that I have witnessed yet. Do yourself a favor and check out all the others first, and really check out the Derringer. I remember a thread like this on another forum and there were several negative posts about the Derringer from former users and like one or two that liked them. As I said, I am not one to slam anothers choice of equipment, but I have all the proof that I needed to have a very negative opinion of this rest. Just being honest. Good luck in your decision.

I' ve used this rest for the past two seasons. Like every Savage product I have ever owned, it is well built. I do have concerns that the rest isn' t dropping away fast enough, but my arrows are tuning and grouping well. I do have concerns about the magnet falling out on me, but it never has. It does take some time to get the sensitivity set just right, but once it is I don' t get any pre-mature drops.

As you mentioned, I really like the way it looks on my bow, but I have been checking out other rests quite heavily. However, I am shooting so well right now I' m afraid to mess with it... I' m sure this will pass

I had slam forgotten about my magnet falling off too Proff..Like your friend I was scratchin around in th grass like a starvin gobbler for about 30 minutes looking for it..I JB Welded it back on & it hasn' t come off since..Now I carry a piece of waxed deer cape thread cut to just the right length in my pack just in case..I can tie it around the adjustment screw(spring),,then to my cable & it works good enough to get me through a hunt..Seriously considered rigging mine that way for good but just don' t like to have stuff " Can' t" say th N Word rigged on my bow..Just in case of an emergency until I get another(more reliable)rest it does work...
