Default Chrony Woes...

I recently tried to set up my Chrony Master Alpha in the building next door to my office where I shoot. Try as I might, I can' t get a speed reading. A quick call to Chrony informed me I need to purchase the " optional" light kit for $30-40 extra for it to work inside. Son of a...

I really have some things I want to do with this, but don' t want to spring for the light kit. Shooting outdoors involves prior planning and such, and my time is limited. I really need to get this thing to work inside.

Chrony says they use 2 40 watt frosted bulbs in their kit. Has anyone rigged something up that works? I' m thinking of basically just suspending a lamp over it or something, but would like to hear what has worked for you.

I shot through one yesterday (not sure what brand, sorry) and it had a lamp w/ bare light bulb attached to it.

Good luck getting it going.....

What have you got to lose by suspending a lamp. I have a 75 watt bulb directly over mine in my basement and I get more consistent readings with that than I do outside. I just make sure there are no shadows over the electronic " eye" .

I have never measured it but I would estimate it at around three feet. It is simply a bare bulb that is attached to the studs (rafters, for lack of the correct terminology) in the ceiling of the basement.
