Type Of Arrow To Use?

Hi, I just ran accross this site, and it looks great,
I used to shoot for fun back in the mid 80's, never
was to serious, but enjoyed it very much.

I have a YORK CNC Compound, 60-70lb in mint condition,
we have bought my son a youth bow, and now I want
to come out of retirement and shoot with him with my old YORK.

I need to get some arrows, but things seem so complicated now,
a friend told me to beware of Carbon Fibre with older bows
because they are so much lighter that they would be like
dry firing, is there any truth to this?

I guess my question is, what should I look to buy to shoot with
my old dinosaur.

Get your bow tuned and make sure it is safe to use. I don't think it is dangerous to use carbon arrows on an older bow, just make sure you have limb dampeners and a stabiliser to absorb some vibrations. The lighter carbon arrows really just improve arrow speeds. If you look at the bows out today, they are capable of higher speeds with higher draw weights. Just stick with at least 400 grain arrow/tip combo and you should be golden.

Visit the arrow makers sites.You'll find most offer heavier shafts for those who prefer them.Folks who shoot both compounds and trad gear like myself use heavier shafts with our trad bows and the others through the compound.With the York I would go with the heavy shafts just to be on the safe side.Even modern bows can suffer limb damage with the really light shafts some offer.Good luck!

change your string and cables on a bow of that age , get the properly spined arrows and your good to go , easton axis is an excellent arrow for a carbon , or easton fmj if you want something heavier , have at it ,
