Default Cabelas SST Arrows

Hi,

Let me start by saying I' m new to archery. I' m planning on bowhunting this fall. I have a magnatec xt2000, 58LB draw, set at 28.5 inches. I ordered the SST arrows without realizing the diameter difference between them and (what I call) a standard carbon shaft. I' ve only shot terminators before. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the smaller diameter arrow shaft with outserts as opposed to inserts? Would I be better off with Carbon Express or similar?

Thanks for your help!

Pete

The smaller putruded carbons are more consistant in spine and straightness and the penetrate better. I have a couple doze sst' s and they are great arrows, especialy for the money. The only catch is that you will probably need either a Whisker bisquit rest or one of the many drop aways to get good arrow flight.

5 shot what kinda knocks you using on yours? I did' nt like the glue ons,but with a drop away or WB I guess it would' nt matter as much.

Outserts are also notorious for staying in dense foam targets upon shaft removal...

I have to agree with both of the other gentleman above regarding the areas that they commented on. I would also comment on the fact that the SSTs and Mavericks that I shot continue to outpenetrate, because of shaft diameter, just about anything else I have put through a bow. I was able to get fletching clearance and very respectable accuracy out of them and the typical TM hunter style rest though it took quite a bit of tinkering...and patience. The Whisker Biscuit suggestion would be a good one except it does reduce arrow speed which, in my mind, tends to nullify the advantage, to some extent, of the skinny carbons penetration capabilities. I like the idea of a drop away design with these arrows much better.

I used the glue on nocks, but I also shot them out of a Zero effect and WB rests. The outserts can come out, but I use a good 24 hour expoxy and that seems to solve the problem.
