Default Hot Knofe Question

For old-timers, I think. Back in the old recurve days; when many of us fletched our own arrows and hardly anyone ever heard of vanes and feathers were in.

We had a hot wire that we bent in the shape we wished our feathers to be shaped in then plugged it into a standard household outlet; the wire glowed red and we rotated the fletched arrow and the hot wire trimmed the feathers to the appropriate shape.

I need to make a hot knife but not to trim fletching but to cut 200 feet of new nylon cord for my tent. Are there any experts out there that can tell me how to make one without spending a fortune; I' m retired. [&:]

Well you can buy one already made for $50.

Or Home Depot has a soldering gun with a cutting tip attachment. It' s the top one on the page.

Propane torch and a piece of sharpened metal strapping with a duct tape handle. If you' re really cheap, substitute a campfire for the propane torch.

I got the ideal suggestion on another forum. The suddestionwas to get a length of wire. Then a 12 volt battery charger. Starting with the leads farther apart slowly move the leads closer to increase the heat to the level I need to cut my rope.

And I have everything but the coppor wire.

One bedroom apartments don' t leave a lot of room.
