I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I' m trying to make sure I have the optimum arrow set up for my LX. I' m shooting a 29" CE 3D Select 300. According to the BowJackson charts, with a 125gr tip, I am getting 282fps, wt is 402gr and KE is 71ftlbs. The FOC is 12.3%.

With the 100gr point, my speed is 290fps, with a wt of 376gr, KE of 70ftlbs and FOC is 10%.

Both setups seem pretty good to me. Thoughts?

I have found that the optimum FOC for 300 3D Seclects in anywhere between 8-11. Hope this helps. Good shooting. Wayne

I shot 3D select 300s last year. My FOC was around 10%. I got very good accuracy. You can play with your setup and try different FOC %' s. I have found that having the correct spine and a properly tuned bow is more important than FOC. In other words, don' t decrease or increase feild point weight and jepoardize your spine in order to get a 12% rather than a 10% FOC. I know that carbons have a very wide spine range but I have found that adjusting my poundage and tip weight to acheive a correctly spined arrow for my setup is paramount in acheiving the best accuracy possible. Just my 2 cents.

I' d shoot the 100 grain tip. I like that F.O.C. around 10% but 12 isn' t to bad.

I like to keep my FOC at 10%-15%. If the bow is well tuned and accurate I would have no problem with the 100 gr. tip with 10% FOC.

What Buckskin said. Proper spine allows less f.o.c. Higher f.o.c.s will help to correct bad arrow flight or bad spine. Higher f.oc.s will also correct and hold course better if you hunt in heavy wind situations, but not enough to make it worth the effort and go overboard.You gotta remember that f.o.c. charts are just a guideline and not a hard and fast rule. Let group testing decide and forget the number.

I think foc is way over rated for hunting distances.

I have shot from 6% to about 18% with great bh flight.

I personally like a lower foc, in the 7 - 9 range. But the properly spined and set up arrow for the tip weight you use will probably work in a very wide range of foc.

shoot 90 meters and then you may want to pay more attention to it.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will stick with the 100gr point. It does fly well and when paper tuning, shoots bullet holes.

After previous discussions I found a discussion on calculating F.O.C. I had never checked it with my setup so I thought I' d try. According to the information on the subject I have, I calculated 7.56% F.O.C.

At the bottom it says if the F.O.C. is greater than 10% use a lighter broadhead. When below 7% use a heavier broadhead. The article states " Arrows with a weight forward balance between 7 and 10% are the most aerodynamic."

Since I am within the recommended limits I never had to decide whether to accept their conclusion or not. I think if a person is shooting accurately and grouping well wyh change it.

I wonder whether the F.O.C. isn' t another of those little picky things that we tinker with.

I think the faster your bow is the more you should be concerned with FOC
speed and velositey definately has an effect on a arrow that is light in the front.
