Default Total noob but eager to get it right

Okay I have decided to get into bow hunting and probably got better equipment to start with than I really need. The deal is the last time I show a bow was the old recurve at Grandma's house 20 years ago, I have read a bit an realize that I need to go toa good shop to get my gear set up right but before I do that I have a couple of questions so I don't feel like such an idiot when I do it. I have a 4 fixed pin sight and I was wondering what ranges the pins are supposed to be for. Also what are the basics for eyeballing my rest and sights so I am and no so far off target that I am a danger to the surrounding countryside. For example. Do I line up the rest with the nock so if I look at it from behind they are right in line or is there an offset.Do I need adjustments made if I am using a release as compared to holding the string? I read about the stiffness of arrows but what about the sizes. I know my rest will fit medium arrows. Is it a personal preferance for arrow size or is it more signifigant than that? Maybe I should just list what I have and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Bow: Bear archery the truth 2
Sight: Apex gear atomic four pin bow sight
Rest: trophy ridge drop tine quick shot arrow rest

As far as your sights go, your bow will shoot relatively flatout to 20 yds. So your top pin should be set to20yds. all others in 10yd increments. 20,30,40,etc. Now for tuning the bow I don't think you should try to eyeball it in and start shooting. I think most good pro shops will be eager to help a new comer. Just beware if they say you have to buy some gizmo because it sounds like you have everything you need except for a little tuning.

Great time of year to start , you will , if you practice , have experience to hunt next year . Best advise I could give is join a club , or find a proshop close to you and hang out . You need someone with experience to set you up with proper equipment , and watch you shoot some arrows to dial in you shooting form .

Ok to me, I like my pins to start at 20 and go up in encroments of 10 yards. I have a 5 pin sight, my pins are 20,30,40,50,60. Now would i ever take the shot at 50 or 60 yards. i dont think i would unless i was on a big game animal. but i live in ky and i only really hunt deer. But it is fun when shooting with friends. But thats what id put them at, but it is personal peference to tell u the truth.
