Default bow weight

i dont know much about my bow, besides that it is a martin, and on the limb it says firecat and proseries, i dont know the pull weight but im trying to get a friend into shooting the bow, and she cant pull the weight yet, and im guess guessing its about 55 pounds or so. i read elsewhere that you adjust weight by the screws on the end of the limbs, but only so many turns past full weight. so should i tighten the screws all the way and the let it off little by little. or is there another method to do this. thanks for the help

Is this a 2008 FireCat? There should be a sticker on the inside of the bottom limb that tells what the bow will peak at when the bolts (limbs) are bottomed. You can safely back each limb bolt out five turns, which should drop the maximum weight by 15#. If she can't draw that then it's obviously too much weight. The other thing to consider is the draw length. If the bow's draw length is too long then the bow will be harder to draw.

Realize that most women cannot draw as much weight as men because men have this problem called testosterone and often buy a bow that peaks at a higher weight than they should be shooting too. They have some stupid notion that more is better all the time when in reality archery is about accuracy and not brute strength.

hello, thanks for the quick response. it is not a 2008 firecat, but i dont know how old it is, im going to assume over 10 yrs old. but i cant really be sure, it was given to me by a friend. ill just try cranking down the limbs and then backing it off a few turns and see what we can do.

thanks

Ok, so it's an older FireCat. Not a problem. The same rules apply. If you bottom the limbs you can safely back them out five turns each and see if she can draw it. Draw length is still a crucial factor.
