Default Which tournament release?

I' ve been using a Scott lilgoose for about 3yrs., but have always wanted to try using one of the smaller releases. I' ve looked at a couple, and I like the looks of the T.R.U. Little extreme and the Chappy boss. But I' m not sure, because noone around here stocks alot of those releases.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I' m wanting a rope release with some kind of trigger mechanism.
Also, do you think a thumb, pinky, or palm release works better?
I' m just needing some suggestions to look at, and any are appreciated.
Thanks, Micah

The only good reason I have found to go to a handheld release is to be able to use a pure backtension release. I tried a pinky trigger and it was just that, a trigger. I borrowed a Stans 4 finger and learned how to use backtension by shooting close range without my site on the bow. I now have a TRUBall Truetension and it is a really nice release. Much smoother for me than the Stan and I can shoot it right of the string loop, no problem. It really feels good in my hand too, it fits well.

A good triggerless release can be bought for around 50 or so and a nice trigger type target release will cost you 150 or so. I figure I have 3 more chances to find a release that fits my hand best going with a triggerless at those prices. I can relate to you, no one around here carrys them and no one uses one. The one I found to borrow was bought and never used.

I use the Tru-Ball Extreme with Talon head.
It is a thumb release but can also be used as back tension which is the way I use it.
Like Chief said they are not cheap but you can pick up good second hand ones for reasonable prices.

The best bet to try one would be to go to 3d shoots and talk to the guys and see if they will let you try their release most of the guys will let you try but there are some that wont.

Good luck

Ausie-

That is a great suggestion and you are correct. Make sure it' s something that will fit you hand well. My only problem is I might have seen a couple of hand held releases at the shoots I' ve been to, but a very few. Like maybe 2 since last year. And I know nobody else shooting a triggerless BT release at all. It' s kindof unheard of around here.

I took my triggerless release into the local shop and showed it to the guys and explained how it worked to them. They were clueless until then and I' m not even sure they had heard of such a thing. They were kindof afraid of it []!

I have a handle with a string to practice on so I let them try it out. It was good for a few laffs.

You may also want to take a good look at the King George release by TRU Ball. It is a combination, thumb and pinky release. I chose the regular King George instead of the King George Extreme because the Extreme is 7/16" smaller I believe then the regular. I do like the knurled knob on the extreme though. Try putting your hand to your anchor and squeezing with your thumb and pinky. It just feels right to me anyway. I have the talon head, but also bought the double ball jaw. The two are interchangeable and can be ordered from a TRU Ball Dealer.
