Default One eye or two?

When you shoot do you close one eye or have both eyes open? I shoot with one eye but see in the magazines people using two eyes. Is it for the photo or is there an advantage to having both open?

I have shot with two open for a while. It helps me see the target. Mt right eye is weak and shooting with both helps me see the X.

I shoot one eye closed. Along these same lines, I shoot right handed and am left eye dominant. When shooting a shotgun, both eyes open, I have to put a dot on my shooting glasses to cover the left eye or the accuracy suffers. Would the same be true when shooting a bow?

I shoot right handed and am right eye dominant, so I shoot with both eyes open. Most folks who I have seen shoot with one eye closed that do it without thinking are closing their dominant eye. I haven' t dealt with this much in archers, but every single gun shooter I' ve known that tried switching to shooting with the other hand has improved immediately and can now shoot with both eyes open and can aim much better with their dominant eye.

I shoot right handed and am LEFT eye dominant.........I' m most accurate when I squint down on my left eye just a bit to take it out of play. Both eyes are still open, but I just have to short-curcuit that left one a bit for my best accuracy.

I' m in the same boat as Mez and it sounds like you might be left eye dominant as well, so give it a try, it works great for me........I imagine it would be a lot less distracting than putting something OVER your left eye.

Just curious, for those who are left eye dominant but shoot right handed. Did you ever try going left handed? Just wondering why not? Other than getting hosed with equipment[:@]!!! I am left eye dominant, but I shoot bows & guns left handed. When I was younger my dad tried to curb me of my natural left handed shooting position. I could shoot right, just much better left. The wierd thing is I do everything else right (write, golf, hockey, throw a ball, etc). To me it was just more natural and only when I was in my teens did I find out I was truly left eye dominant.

To the orginal question I shoot with both eyes open.

If you can shoot either (left handed / left eye dominant) or (right handed / right eye dominant) shooting with both eyes open works great. You can see dramatically better in the woods (low light - shadows). If you shoot this way, it doesn' t matter if you have your NOT dominant eye opened or closed, you will shoot the same.
If you don' t look through your peep with your dominant eye, you could have some big problems shooting with both eyes open or changing back and forth. Whichever way, you should do it the same every time, and I would tend to bet you' d be far more accurate closing your dominant eye.

Good Luck!!
