Default Insert Tool

I was leafing through my Keystone Archery catalog the other day looking for various tools I could add to my collection, and saw a insert tool for inserting and removing inserts. It's just a T-handle wrench with a threaded end, but it seems like a nice tool for placing and correctly seating inserts as well as removing them. So what's your thoughts? Anyone actually use one? Recommend one, or are they just a waste?

I have recently started fletching my own arrows but haven't seen that before. Not sure that I need it but it is interesting.

Is this the one you were looking at:

Yep, that's it. I'm just getting started in trying to build up a small at home workshop, so I've never tried messing with insert installation/removal, but this would seem to be a very efficient way of doing it.

I don't use the insert tool to install inserts but I do use it to check for a loose insert that may come out in the target and remove it if need be.

I screw in the insert tool and get a good grip on the arrow shaft and then try and turn the insert. Ifthe insert turns then I keep turning it to loosen it more and pull at the same time. I remove the insert, sand the old glue/epoxy off and re-install it. I have found that when shooting a lot the glue/epoxy eventually seems to give and this is the best way to be preventative. Beats loosing a tip and insert inside your target.

Installing inserts doesn't require anything more than fingers when using carbon arrows. I am going to be using aluminum at some point in the near future and then I'll use the insert tool to hold the insert while I heat it and apply the glue. It should come in handy for that.

I find that the insert tool works great.

It gives you the ability to turn the insert after seating it to ensure that your glue is spread over the entire inside of the shaft.

Another benefit is not having to hold an aluminum insert while attempting to melt hot glue on it.

We have one similar to that at the shop. We use it all the time for cleaning out the insert threads. Those things are notorious for being dirty....Run that tool through it, field points go in MUCH easier.
