Default Helical? Offset? Straight?

OK, being a old school archer I have been weened on full 5 in helical fletching on arrows.

I'm curious what the current consensus IS on fletching today. Is helical really necessary any longer or does offset work just as well?

I use a slight offset works fine for me. I'm not a big fan of straight fletching unless you are using feathers.

I use blazers for hunting with RH Helical. And for target I use helical also..

IMO, it depends on what your shooting style is, example: I shoot a straight feather and have since I started bowhunting but my set up is a mech bh and they fly well with the straight feather. I tried to use some fixed bh's and I couldn't get them to fly with that fletch, so I fletched a few arrows helical and they flew better with the fixed b/h. This has been my experience with them....Good Luck

Thanks - that pretty much confirms what I knew already...

My buds have been boasting the new Blazer fletching as 'the bomb!' I dunno if I can mentally get past the 'full 5-inch fletch' mentality I have...

Blazers work great with an offset, that is what I am currently using right now. And they work just as well or better with a helical. What you have to remember is the blazers have a higher profile and are much stiffer than the your normal 5 inch vane so they control better. As far as control goes I like my blazers just as well as feathers. Not very forgiving though because of how stiff they are.

In my opinion putting blazers on with a straight fletch is a waste though.

arrows fletched wih a helical will out perform those without a helical, period. You may lose a little speed but the advantages of a helical far exceeds the min.loss in speed.

Shooting Broadheads I use Helical with as much offset as I can and still get the fletch to sit solid on the arrow shaft.
