Default Just so you all know...

RPM ratings are put on cut off wheels for a reason.

I just got done picking chunks of carbide out of my face because of my bone headed idea to put a cut off wheel on a roto zip that ran at a much higher RPM than what the blade was rated for. [:@]

Lessons learned, lol.At least I still got both my eyes, only because I was wearing safety glasses, they were hit hard too. My face sure hurts, I had about 15 chunks of blade in my face, and it bled pretty good.

So I guess they mean it when they put ratings on tools (ANY tools), so don't be stupid like me and try to push the limit, because you (or me next time) might not get so lucky.

Glad you learned a lesson without getting seriously injured.

I saw a grinding wheel go through a steel roof 1 time and land outside when someone was trying to use the wrong grinding wheel on a lathe mounted grinder. He was lucky he didn't get killed.

We all push the limits, that is how we learn, sometimes. Glad you were wearing safety glasses and came out of it with your sense of humor

lol

well... actually... i wasn't wearing safety glasses. I have prescription glasses, and if it wasn't for these I surely would have lost an eye, because I know me, and I KNOW that I wouldn't have been wearing safety glasses. I used to think glasses were a curse, but now I'm glad I've had to wear them for the last 6 years... guess all this time it was a blessing in disguise.

I know I'll always have eye protection now though, especially if I have contacts in.

I suppose you found you answer to this question??? Better to just buy and arrow saw, than lose your vision, or maybe even pay someone to cut the arrows for you. I've never paid more than $.50 to have an arrow cut, and have never had but about a couple dozen cut, so I think I'll just keep letting my pro-shop guy cut them for me.

Glad to hear you WERE wearing the safety glasses. Hope the healing goes well. Sorry to hear you had to learn this the hard way. But then again, Ican feel rest assured that we've all had to learn the "HARD WAY," from time to time. I know I certainly have made more than my fair share of dumbass mistakes. At least twice I ended up with stitches, and at least 3 other times I should have, and I have the scars to prove my stupidity.

I know it isn't funny right now but I got a chuckle out of this.

I have seen other people do things like this (not necessarily with an arrow cut off blade)and the expressions on their faces when it happens is priceless.

Kind of like putting passenger tires on a formula 1 car.

Most cut off saws are 8,000 rpms or less. I'd guess the blades are designed with that in mind.
