I'm in the process of buidling my fall hunting arrows, and have a question. I know from experience that Blazers are incredible, until you get to the really big, heavy arrows. My hunting arrow will be around 500 grains, and I think they would work, but........I've been shooting blazers for about 3 years or so now, and want to change it up.
So this year I'm going to shoot feathers. Here's the question....I'll be shooting big, heavy 2512 XX78's, weighing in, as I mentioned, around 500 grains. My question is, will the razyr feathers be enough, or should I stick w/ my original plan and use 4" ?

Your just going to have to make some up and see. Anybody got some of both you can part with? I have some 4" trebark red coming. I'll send you 4 (just in case you goff one).
I just made one with feathers and one with vanes. Shot them a few times. A dozen shots andone feather has a hole. Ya can't beat a vane for hunting.
I was shooting an arrow around 420 grains and I used the 2" blazers. They worked fine for me. 80 Grains is obvious;y heavier but I think you should be fine. LIke others have said try it and see.
AZ, arrow diameter comes into play as well as weight. Them 2512's ain't skinny...
Thanks for the offer nodog, but it's all good. We carry 4" at the shop, I can get a few from there. I just didn't want to fletch up any of my hunting arras as they are going to be dipped and crested. Guess I could give it a trial run w/ my 2613 X7's.....hmmmm, yeah, that could work.

I'm not sure why you would want to shoot Razr Feathers on such a heavy arrow unless it's for Looks. The weight difference between the 2 would not be enough to influence a decision as feathers weigh next to nothing anyway.
Here is my thinking. When my bow and arrow are tuned correctly I can shoot bareshaft at the target and put the arrow where it is supposed to go at 35yds when weatherand other outside conditions are perfect.
I use four 4" feathers on my hunting arrows because I anticipate that conditions will not be perfect every day that I go out hunting and the four 4" feathers will help the most in less than perfect conditions.
I am sure the rayzr's would work just fine on your arrows since you will have everything tuned correctly but you need to ask yourself what you expect to get from whatever fletching you use and then decide if it is what you want.

Yep, looks is precisely why I was considering them. But, I'm gonna just go ahead and ensure I've got enough stabilization back there and go w/ 4" shield cuts.....Thanks all.

I know I like the way the Razrs look and I use them on my Maximas, but on my 500 grain FMJ's I went with 3" feathers to be safe

One plus I've heard about the razyr leads me to believe they are stiffer. If you like blazers this should be a good thing.
