Default Arrow Question

On another forum there was this gal that was asking for opinions on different bows and arrow combinations for hunting. She has hunted and tagged several whitetail deer. But now she wants to start hunting elk and is looking to upgrader her equipment. One person said the Switchback and Lightspeed 400 arrows. She is only shooting 45 lbs and 25 inch draw. I told the person that I agreed with his choice of bows but not on his choice of arrows. I said the 400 spine was way to stiff for her setup. Well needless to say he said the 400' were fine and he had even called Easton and they told him the 400's would be fine with the setup she said. Well OT2 says he is wrong but he still wont believe it. Has even emailed me and called me a few names , not that that bothers me. But just hard to believe he actually called Easton and they told him the 400's would be fine at 45 lbs and 26 inch arrows and 85 grain head. What are your thoughts on this setup .

Default RE: Arrow Question

You are right. At 29", a 500 series arrow with a 100 grain tip runs out of spine in the low 50's for draw weight. As the arrow gets shorter, it's relative spine increases. Also as the point weight decreases.A 500 series arrow at only 25" would, if anything, bea little too stiff fora 45 lb. bow.

Also, I wouldn't shoot a light 3D arrow for elk from a low poundage bow. Shoot something at least 400 grains, with a COC head, and live with the somewhat arched trajectory.

Default RE: Arrow Question

Thanks Roskoe. I wouldnt use a lightspeed either for elk , it was just an arrow that I knew had a 400 spine rating in it that I could use on OT2. Didnt matter to him , he still insisted I was wrong even after I posted picture of OT2 and what it showed. I also ran the 500's on it and it also bottomed out on the 7over stiff spine. OT showed she needed something in the neighborhood of a .770 spine but for broadheads I think I would go with a slightly stiffer spine. Anyway thanks again Roskoe.
