Stanislawski. http://www.stanislawski.com/

My other recommendation is learn to draw low, toward your shoulder, and only bring your hand up to anchor after you're at full draw. If you usually draw straight to anchor with your current release, with a BT release you will be running a real risk of breaking your nose or knocking out your teeth until you get the feel of drawing with it. That is not an exaggeration. I've seen it happen.

I bloodied my nose and busted my lip a few times trying to learn to use a BT release. Never did get the hang of it, but I learned how to keep from killing myself with it.

My girlfriend uses a Sweet Spot by TRU ball and it seems to work pretty well. It has a safety so you can draw without punching yourself. It is also easier to hook up.

Basically you set the safety, hook up the release then draw to a comfortable anchor and hand position then flip the safety off. After that you can trigger it using back tension. Or you can do what I do and set the safety, draw the bow and find the hand position I want then release the safety and fire it. After than I do not use the safety again. I use it just like a conventional back tension release.

Pick up a Zenith Archery "No-Punch" training kit (http://zenitharchery.com/zap_no_punch.htm)

It comes with a release (one of the best pure BT releases made), all required hardware for the release and most importantly, a video tape that shows you how to properly draw, fire and let down without ending up with a bloodied lip. At $79.95 it is a great deal, considering the average price of a target BT release these days is around $120.

In my quest for the perfect BT release....for me....I have probably tried about 12 different models and just keep coming back to the Zenith.

One other thing is that I have NEVER had a true BT release that prematurely fired during my draw or let down. Once you know how to draw and let down the thought never even crosses your mind. I have also had a number of BT releases with safteys over the years. The one thing that has been consistent with them is that I have managed to punch myself in the face with each and every one of them. Not all of the punches were release failures of one sort or another, most of them were my fault, however the saftey is just one more thing to have to think about when drawing or letting down.

I agree with Art. Stans are hard to beat. I've never had a bad one. It's just your choice to shoot four, three or two finger.

Unbelievable. Not even from the very first? Too bad you used up all your luck on BT releases and not on the lottery.

I nearly broke my nose on the first session with back tension release. Later I got a fat lip and wound up with a loose tooth. Finally got the hang of it and could shoot pretty well with the surprise release if offers. But I couldn't live with it for hunting. I only know of one archer who uses one for hunting. Everyone else is a 3-D shooter.

Ain't that the truth! I had a guy let me try his almost a decade ago before I knew ANYTHING about archery... I guess he thought it would make for good sport to watch me punch myself in the face.He handed me the release with not a single word of warning or instruction...Luckily for me,I punched my lip before I got too much pressure built up.

Was that the only lipped that got punched?[]

I have had releases let go before and punch me in the mouth but never had a bt hit me.I have had them fire on the draw but I didn't get hit.

Just to set the record straight

Before I took the jump into a true BT release, I did get some help from a coach that taught me the proper technique to draw and let down. Unless you are setting your release right on the hairy edge, hooking your thumb over the thumb peg during draw or let down will prevent the release from firing.

I found the true BT release much easier to keep straight in my head than one with a saftey......simple things for simple minds
