Default Hows my form? Newbie

Yep, another one. Sorry but I don't have any experience with bows and nobody in my family does either. I picked up this old bow and have been just basically trying to learn by what I read on this site. Try not to bash me too hard, haha. Anyways, see what ya think.

I know it looks like my back is kind of curved but thats because my spine actually does curve! Always has. One of shoulders is a bit higher than the other from it when you see me face to face.

Also, sorry for the cruddy pics, was taking them on a camera phone with a 5 second timer on it!

One thing I noticed, my arm might be a little locked? Didn't really feel like it though.

Taking into consideration your "back problem" it still looks like your leaning back. This is due to the draw lengthbeinga little too long. If you can shorten the draw length it will also help with the elbow lock although it doesn't look too bad.

It also looks like your anchor point is a little too far back, while anchor points are subject to what feels comfortable to the shooter, it's easier to get asolid "repeatable" anchorif you have more surface to anchor to. Try to shorten your release if possible.

I like your grip in the last photo, I'm not a big fan of the "fingers pointing out" grip (although a lot of folks use it) it's not natural to point our fingers and this might cause a torquing problem.

Good luck and welcome aboard!

Here is a pic of me...See how my anchor point is well in front of my ear? My thumbactually rests along my lower jaw bone giving me a very repeatable anchor even with a fleece face mask on. The tip of my nose touches the string and with the peep that gives me three points of reference again aiding in being able to repeat the same exact anchor each and every time.

Also try to stand as straight as your back will allow you to do.

Good deal, I think you pretty much summed up everything I was thinking.

-When I draw it back to where Im comfortable, there's still a little bit left to draw out so I have to draw back more= creating the lean?. I thought that needed fixed- guess it does! Thanks!

-About my anchor point, would it make a difference if I told ya I pulled my fingers way back off the trigger in an attempt just to stay clear of accidently hitting it?The actual trigger is probably an inch of two forward from where my fingers are in the pic. Like I said, I don't know, but would that make a difference in the spot of what it makes my anchor point look to be?

Thanks for the help!

I noticed that.....if you look at my pic, mine is behind the trigger as well.

You should be close enough so when you place your finger on the trigger it's between the first and second knuckle, in other words you shouldn't be reaching for the trigger, your finger should fall right over it.

Alright so I just tried it at full draw, my trigger hits RIGHT on my first knuckle, I'd say it's like a 1/4" too long. How do I go about a change in that?

Tried straightening up as much as I could! That was kinda straining some! lol.

So other than my release needing shortened up some and my draw length needing shortened some, any other problem areas that you see? Im feeling pretty good about it right now...lol

Well, not knowing what kind it is, I'm not exactly sure. Some can be adjusted easily others not so easy. Mine (True Fire Hurricane) you can actually screw in the head assembly to make it shorter. Others (the kind that have a threaded rod that's curved at the end with a nut securing it to the strap) need to be disassembledcut, re-bent and reassembled. Sounds difficult but if you own a pair of pliers, a hack saw and a vice it's quite easy.

Yup, mine's the not so easy kind. I'll probably just pick up a new one with my gift card when I go to Gander Mountain next time, the one I got is just a $10 cheapie (college kid budget) that I picked up from the Great Land of Wally World!

See if you can get the draw length shortened (most of them older bows can be adjusted some) and post another picture. It will be easier to "fine tune" you from there. You should "feel pretty good about it right now" you're on the right track to obtaining good form and that's key.

One more thing, has nothing to do with your form though. I'd get that peep tube off of thelimb and attach it to the bus cable (see mine) make sure it's not too tight, just short enough to turn the peep.

BTW...Love the "Old School" bow I used to have a Browning with the wooden riser...I loved that bow.
