Default 70 lb Diamond Marquis Shooting 52' Pounds

Hey guys. My friend just bought me a brand new 70' diamond marquis bow, I am very new to bows so I had my local archery store set everything up for me. The manual mentions that the bow can go down to 60 lb but it also says you should NOT turn the limb bolts more than 2 1/2 turns each. I gave the bow to the owner of the archery store who seems VERY experienced and he starting turning the bow WAY down. He said that the manual is BS because you have to turn the bolts 4 turns to get 60 lb. Very contradictory. He then turned the bolts down further to 53 lb and set me up at that weight. I usually can pull 60 lbs but right now I have a shoulder injury (why he turned it down). We fired the bow twice at this setting and it performed fine. Could this possible hurt the bow?

If the warranty states that the bow should not be turned down more than 2.5 turns then there is a reason for it. It could be that the bolts aren't long enough to securely fit into the riser when turned out more than the suggested number of turns or it could possibly be (on non-floating limb pocket models) that the limbs will not be seated correctly within the limb pockets. In any case following the manufacturers recommendations is the wise choice.

Can you comfortably handle the bow when the limb bolts are turned back down 1.5 turns?

If you want your warranty honored if needed go by what Bowtech/Diamond states in the manual. Turning a 70# bow down to 52# is too much

I agree with the others a 70# bow shouldn't be backed down to 52lbs. See if the dealer with trade you for some 60 # limbs.

Can this damage the bow? The bolt that adjusts the poundage is huge. I mean im no professional but it sure looks like it cab hold the weight.

Yes it could damage your bow. It could ,not saying it will. The bolt isn't the concern it will handle the force. The threads in the riser would be more of a concern, because if there aren't enough threads being used to anchor the bolt it can strip them out and cause severe problems. I'd call Diamond and ask their opinion and I'm sure they will tell you to crank it back up. Or void your warranty.

i'm going to go out on a "limb" so to speak and disagree mildly... the bow is likely VERY safe at the poundage you're set at... often these warranty stipulations are a matter of $$ and liability, not really a testament to actual capability of the bow itself... if your shop thinks it is ok and did the work for you to get it set up properly then if you have a problem it is probably safe to say that your shop will take care of it... that said, the proper thing to do is to get some 60# limbs, you might even be able to get some 50's as they may pull at 52 anyway but that would be the upper limit of them...

Yah.. The guy at my local archery store said I can trust him. He is also an authorized diamond dealer. (he is the owner of the store and not just an employee) He has built his business on the fact hes the only guy locally that knows anything about archery and bowhunting. (we live in orange county, CA). Last night I was looking at the bolts and to me the bolt still sticks a ways out of the screw hole. It appears to me that the bolt can hold the limbs just as well at this posiition. Mind you I have only shot the bow twice and pulled on it 10 times. As with any warranty situation manual is VERY conservative because they are looking for reasons to void your warranty becaue then if it breaks they are sneakishly not liably. Same reason why in my BMW manual it says no track driving?????

Although the bow might be OK at this weight I wouldn't chance it. As mentioned, the limb bolts might not be long enough to have enough threads in the riser. Possibility is that with vibration the riser threads could get stripped. I'd do what PA said and see if you can swap out for 60# limbs.
