Default Mathews MQ1!

Does anyone out there shoot a MQ1? How do they like it? Ups and downs? How do you like the mono cam system on new bows. Thanks for the input!

I'll try to help a little. I shoot a MQ-32 which uses the same cams and has the same basic design as the MQ1 but is 5" shorter axle to axle.

The biggest beef I have with Mathews bows is the lack of draw length adjustment with their cams. If you need or want to experiment with a different draw lenth then you must purchase a new cam. $$$. The second biggest beef I have is that the grip is too fat. It feels great in my hand but I torque it too easily if I am not paying attention to form. You can replace it, though. The third beef is that the single cam chews up the serving on the string/cable system. This is common with single cam bows. Other than that, I love my little bow.

You should be able to find a good deal on a MQ1 since they are an older design.

LBCwanabe,
I've been shooting an MQ1 for several years, and I love it. I put the new competion grip on mine, much better. The newer Zebra strings have extra serving where the cam tends to wear it down. Don't worry about the draw length, as far as numbers go. Most bows vary a little, so go and draw several, and order the one that fits.

Default RE: Mathews MQ1!

I had an MQ1 for a while this year. I thought the bow was well made, had nice shooting qualities. This would especially include low recoil and noise. If you are shooting an older bow, you will notice this and probably like it a lot. I had one that was only 1 year old. The cam showed some improvements over the original ones, I believe. These improvements included a beveled edge to the cam track which lessened the tendency to wear away the cable serving. The other thing that I don't think was on the original straightline max cams was the two holes which allowed for checking of cam timing. Even with these holes, it was still more difficult to check than some other cams out there. Some guys just don't worry about it though. The bow tuned well, and shot well most of the time. I agree with the comments about the grip. I worked mine down with help from Ossage who posts here once in a while. This got my broadheads shooting better. The only reason I sold it was that I already had a bow that I shot just a little better, especially at long range, than the MQ1. I may have been nuts for selling it, but I really don't miss it that much. I am just not a guy who needs a new bow every year (or month for some!). If you are getting a new bow, you may want to shoot other models to be sure you like the MQ1 the best. Since the draw length is not adjustable, it is important to be sure the bow fits you before you buy it. If you get it from a good pro shop, that will not be a problem. If you are buying it used, I would definitely want to shoot it a reasonable # of shots. Don't just be in awe of the lack of recoil, be sure you can shoot arrows well with it. JMHO.

Avoid the inevitable until it is absolutely unavoidable!
