Default FOC for hunting arrows?

Good morning all, does anyone know what a good rule of thumb is for FOC on my hunting arrows? I shoot Goldtips and a 90 gr Muzzy. Mine are right in the neighborhood of 12.5% or so. Just curious.

Thanks!

Al

There is no magic number unless you consider Dr Ashby's work that demonstrates that 19% is the point where penetration becomes significantly better.

The general rule is that higher will give a more stable arrow that penetrates better. If accuracy, stability and penetration are more important to you than speed, then go with higher numbers. Just be sure that it matches the dynamic spine of your arrow.

I have read/heard that 10-15% FOC is ballpark appropriate for a hunting arrow.

I amgonna try setting up one arrowwith a 340 spine 28.5" 4 Dura Vane Predators with a 220 gr B/Head for a total arrow weight around 560gr and a FOC of 21/22 %

For me speed dont mean anything according to the program I have the above arrow should be flying at around 240 or so FPS. I want amore stable arrowand betterpenetration as Straightarrow mentioned above

ok the program tells me your FOC is 13.6 if your arrows are the 6075's and
you have the optimum spine.

Now if they are the 4560's then the FOC is 11.5 but the spine is way too weak.

Hope this helps.

I just ran the 4560's again @ 29" long and they came back as optium spine and a FOC of 15.4

So if you can cut them back to 29" you should be good to go.
