Default string?

How often do you guys re-string your bows? not for sure if mine is needing it or not, and does it really effect your fps, or accuracy, or is it just good for the bow?

Default RE: string?

Every couple of years as an insurance policy against being $3K from home and having $20 worth of string ruin my hunt.

Does your string have any frayed looking spots on it? Do you wax it and how often? What is making you thinkabout this? Do you have the entire string? There is no given time it all depends on the condition of the sting the use and how well you took care of it. A 20 dollar string wow thats a great deal?

I build my own so they're actually even less than that.

On some of the most expensive bows I've seen them break after 3 days. Conversely I've seen them last for 10 years. Not that I make them last that long. Used to, but now that I get a new bow every year I don't need to replace the strings/cables. Then again, considering the quality of factory strings (creep, stretch, etc.) I replace them with aftermarket stuff within a couple weeks anyway.

That might be the next thing that I look into is making my own strings. How Hard is that to do.

To make a string or cable is pretty simple. To do it right is agood bit harder.

A good basic video on this is the one thatLarry Wise did for Apple Archery. The title is "Basic String Making".

Another one with a little more advanced information (2 color strings) is by George Ryals. There's a lot of other good information on that video. It has two other sections - tuning and arrow building. While it is primarily for target shooters, anyone can learn something.

There are several good threads here and on Archery Talk on string making.

It's not difficult at all but I'm pretty handy at tying flies, building rods and serving strings already and it still took me a few tries to get it right and I'm still nowheres near up to Gibblet's level and probably never will be. Point is that it doesn't take much to make a good servicable string but they can always be better...

i'd be happy to help you w/ some 'niques' (the latter part of techniques), when/if you run into trouble.
