Left wing and right wing are actually which side of the turkey the feathers came off of. They have a natural curl to them and when they grind them down the make fletching they generally leave more bone on one side or the other depending on if it's a LW feather or a RW feather... I sure hope that made sense...

Now it begs the next question - What the heck is grinding down the feather?? In my minds eye I could see a crotchity old guy splitting a feather with surgical like accuracy whilst hunched over an antique table lit by a green shaded bankers lamp.... I just can't imagine someone weilding a 10 inch craftsman 3/4hp grinder trying to 'trim up' a turkey feather...
I learn more here by accident then elsewhere by design!
