Default Which arrow for youth bow?

I just purchased a bow for my 14 yr old daughter and she is extremely excited about it. It is a Browning Adennelin, 40 -50#. Right now it is set at about 40#. She will be shooting targets for now. Which arrows do you guys recommend for this bow? I am also new to this sport, infact I still haven't bought my bow. My daughters and I have just been renting the bows when target shooting at the local archery shop. This bow(used) just happen to come up, so I bought it for her. The only thing we need for it are some arrows and a mech. release and shes ready to go. Her friends can't believe she got a bow. Anyway, we are excited about practising all summer so that we are ready for the fall. Oh yeh, I am also a new member to this forum and this is my first post. This forum sure offers a wealth of information...it's awesome. Thanks.

Something in a 500 spine, if you want carbon. Say an ST EXCEL 500 would fit the bill very well. There are much higher quality arrows out there, but these are good arrows.

If aluminum is your game, a Easton 1916 would be good. Congrats on the purchase, she'll be hitting bullseyes in no time at all! Welcome to the forums as well, let us know what bow you get when you do.

I went to Cabela's and got a dozen of their carbon arrows for $45 and they cut them for you. Probably not the best arrow out there but I have shot the crap out of them and they are still good.

We talk a lot about proper arrow spine and tuning and what not on this site. However in your case I wouldn't give it too much thought yet. She probably is not good enough to notice the difference in an expensive perfectly spined arrow at this point. Nor would I spend a ton of time on tuning. I would get the bow to where the arrow leaves reasonably straight and leave it alone. She is not going to hunt with it right? You can get away with a lot target shooting at 20-30 yards with target tips and good fletchings.

I would try not to get anything too heavy though. Just get some youth carbon arrows or some easton jazz arrows with glue in points and let her shoot. A local shop should be able to help pick a usable arrow for her set up.

Right now I would concentrate on if the bow fits her well and proper form. These are the MOST important factors in being able to shoot well. After she gets good I would look into getting good well matched arrows and doing some fine tuning. My first goal would be getting the draw length right and getting a good shot sequence down pat.

Good luck,
Paul

Thanks for the valuable input guys. We have a sportsman show coming to town next week, so I may be able to get a good deal on arrows there. I may pick up a few arrows from the local archery shop now, but they are so darn expensive..@$14.00per arrow. They are called Terminator Jr. Yeh, she will only be using the arrows for target and then maybe use them on gophers when all the snow is gone.

I am not kidding mobow, 14 dollars cdn. for each arrow. I thought that was a little steep. I will definitely look for a cheaper arrow. I will order some through ebay or cabelas if I have to. I'm trying to buy a bow through ebay if the right one comes up. I am looking at the Fred Bear Instinct bow. I have read alot of positive comments about this bow.I also watch the sales that are offered through Hunters Friend or Cabelas too. Thanks for the input.

i shoot easton epic 500, now they also make them in 600 spine but you should be fine with 500 because you will eventually turn the bow up to 50#

Curt,

The guys are right. $14 is more than ACC's cost and they are one of the finest arrows you can get for all round use. You should be able to find something decent for about $30/ half doz. Maybe even less.

Paul gave you some good advice. Get some arrows spined reasonably close to what she needs and rough tune the bow. Get her to shooting, tweaking the bow for her draw length and then work on shooting form.
