Default glueing in inserts

I have been building my own arrows for close to 10 years and have always used glue to install the inserts. Everybody I've talked to says epoxy is the way to go so on my last dozen I used the bohning 2-part epoxy. ^ out of the 12 inserts are now stuck in a target this has never happened with the glue. Am I doing something wrong should I be using a diffrant epoxy? Thanks for your help

I can think of only one possibility right now, but I may think of something else later.
I have built somewhere around 100 dozen arrowsin the past few years and always used a 24 hour 2 partepoxy. After a good mixing I put the epoxy on the insert with a q-tip (w/ the cotton off) the length of the insert, and insert it into the shaft, while SPINNING the insert around to spread the epoxy evenly inside the shaft. And while I'm spinning I push it in and out a couple times before finally seating it.

I have seen other guys inserts come out w/ a big clump of glue or epoxy at the top of the insert. you can't just push the insert in and expect it to hold.

This is a good example and explanation on how to use epoxy and what kind.

I now use a very low heat hotmelt(likeEaston's)on all arrows.I still spin to ensure 100% coverage.

thats exactly wht I did with them except i used a tooth pick. Is it possible I just got some bad epoxy. Archer58 are you using just plain old 2-part epoxy that you can get anywhere or special epoxy for this purpose? Thank you both for your replies

Did you clean the inside of the shaft before trying to epoxy? There will be residue from cutting and you need to clean it out.

I don't think you got good coverage with the toothpick,I always just spun the insert in the epoxy itself. Then spun them into the shaft.I never had any problems. Some of the insertsI would take and file a couple extra grooves into them because they didn't look like they would hold well, but I only did that to a few that wasn't srictly target arrows.

What are you using to clean the shafts? I hope it isn't isoprophyl alcohol as this has oils in it. I have used 91% alcohol for many years now. Denatured works, too, as does acetone if you use it sparingly.
