Default cobra sidewinder owners?

Is there any reason a 3 pin sidewinder site can't be made into a five pin? I have the chance to get a deal on a 3 pin but want a five pin. I looked at the web site and they show the pins part #s so I thought I would just add two pins? Thanks..

Rock,
I bought a 5 pin and tried to take 2 off of it. It resulted in nothing but trouble. The fiber optics on this sight are VERY FRAGILE and very hard to get out (probably IN too) of the tube. A little crack in the length of the fiber and its done. This was a very bright sight (brightest i have seen), but mess with the roll of the fiber optics, in or out of the tube and they break TOO easliy. I junked mine because the good ones (3) broke while hunting. i would say dont do it and if you do GOOD LUCK and order at least 1 extra cause you will most likely break one.

Yeah I have read a few reviews and am thinking there is reason for the good deal. I might hold off and go with something else. Maybe a toxonics? Kinda the same theary but looks to be better built.

Rock,
I thought you already had it! if you dont, I would NOT buy it! I did buy a Trophy Ridge Matrix and I am pretty happy with it. But all i can say is the CORBA's with that style of pin, though very bright ... not very strong. Its funny too i remember when a sight would cost you $15 and it worked just as well, now you cant find one for under $50

I took two out of my five pin Sidewinder but I don't know if there's room in the fiber column of the three pin to fit two more coils of fiber. I'm with the rest of the guys on here, the fibers are much to fragile on this sight. I replaced it with the SureLoc Lethal Weapon 2 with modified Fitz fibers and couldn't be happier.

i shoot a radiant with little problems yes they are fragile but if your like me and hunt pigs at night i think this would be a excellent sight.not the best but when igot it i was lookin for one with a light on it so i got it.....i am goin to put four pins but i doubt you would be able to put five with out braking one .putting on these pins are to complecated but after there on there was no problems for me i dont know what yall were doing with this sight when yall were using it but yall probably dropped your bow or did something u werent supposed to in order to brake it...

although i am planning on getting a better light sight do any of yall have reccomendations

I own two Cobra sights and haven't had a problem with either one. I even had the fibers out of their housing for about 30 minutes, trying to get them back in line after putting the sight light on with no problems with breakage, whatsoever.

What are you guys doing with these sights to have the fiber break so easily? I am sitting here playing guitar on my old 3 pin and can't manage to break them.

I plan in the future replacing the fiber with Fitz, but it isn't because of a breakage concern, rather I know they are a bit better quality fiber.

As far as turning the 3 pin sight into a 5 pin sight, shouldn't be a problem with the pins, but like Kodiak said, you might not have enough room for the coil of fiber optic. You might get away with coiling the strands tighter but let me tell ya, it is kind of a pain to work with.

If you are going to make all of these mods, I would suggest looking into Fitz replacement fiber optic for your sight. Supposedly brighter but I really can't see how since Cobra sights have about a mile worth of fiber wrapped inside the column.

No, you cannot convert a 3 pin to a 5 pin, but only because there just isn't enough room for 2 more coils.

I got to looking it over, because I have both a 3 pin and a 5 pin Cobra.

If you use replacement fiber, something he will probably have to get since he may not have extra O.E. coil lying around, you can order it to specific length.

I have found that Cobra uses less length on2 (maybe 3)of the coils in their 5 pin model while not changing the housing size whatsoever.

So if you were to convert a Cobra sight over, try calling Customer Service and ask them how long each length of fiber opticis within the 5 pin models. From there, order your replacement fibers from a company such as Fitz Fiber (www.fitzfiber.com) and the extra pins needed.

Now, you'll be rockin' with a converted 3 pin-5 pin sight.
