Default Self-fletching?

So I reload my own ammunition...and I love it, but I knew going in that you really don't save any money (and certainly no time!!!) unless you shoot VERY high volume and certain cartridges. (28gauge is probably the best example). However, there are numerous advantages. I was wondering if fletching my own arrows would be the same situation? Really won't save much money, but its rewarding and you can get your arrow exactly how you want them. What have you guys found? Do you save any money, or is it a labor of love?

It can be a lot of fun and seeing your work after you're finished is great.

Check out the thread I made a day or so ago about wrapping and fletching your own arrows, somewhere in it I included the prices of all the materials I used.

Good luck and happy fletching!

Good thread, thank you. Only problem is the only sign-maker I know is also the most dedicated archer/hunter I know...I think he'd be wise to my scheme if I asked him for scraps!

There can be advantages, absolutely. Let's say you rip off one vane. Instead of taking it to the shop, just take it to your kitchen. You can control the quality as well. Bare shafts are less expensive than fletched shafts, and after the initial investment you will save some money, but not much. You also won't have to wait for custom fletched arrows at your shop. Just buy the shafts and do it yourself. It really is quite fun and relaxing.

I save money AND it's a lobor of love. I am so anal about how my arrow is fletched. The have to be helical AND the cock feather HAS to be in the same position on each arrow.
