I was wondering what are some ways to pick up some feet per second. I am using 100 grain feild points with carbon arrows. My bow is set up at 68 pounds. I think the estimated feet per second was 320 with my bow but I was recently at a computerized shot and it (the computer) gave me a reading around 260. What can I do?

thats a kinda big loss from IBO speed....but then again its not for a hunting rig. easiest ways is increase draw weight and reduce stuff from the string..namely the center of the string effects it more then stuff on the ends of the string. also lighter arrows. someone here did a test and said a WB took 10-12fps from their speed also...not sure how true but may help. not sure on your drawlegnt or anything....but the longer the draw the faster itll go..but i rather have my draw perfect so i shoot where i want then have it fast and not accurate. id say your fine...but thats your call. alot plays on KE not speed. speed helps but if your carrying alot of KE then id say your fine. just guessing but i bet your drawlegnth might be pretty short or you got heavy arrows...tell us more about your setup and maybe someone can come up with a few fixes. but your going to end up giving some to gain a little.

The problem with trying to increase fps, is often accuracy is degraded. You can add draw length, poundage, take everything off the string, shoot lighter arrows. If your shooting well, leave it alone. 260 fps is plenty fast enough.

If we were playing football, I'd tell you "speed kills." This is bow hunting, accuracy coupled with an arrow 250fps or higher is deadly in just about any instance.
Things you can do that will not affect your draw length or draw weight are............ use a lighter weight peep sight such as the Meta peep from G5 (magnesium), reserve your center serving so that it is only about 3 inches long, use a loop just long enough to get your release hooked up, use light weight string silencers such as leeches or none at all, have custom strings and cables made from stronger and thinner materials thus reducing the stringsoverall weight, use a teflon cable slide, fletch with feathers or light weight vanes such as blazers, and above all MAKE SURE YOUR BOW IS TUNED PROPERLY AND PERFORMING AT ITS PEAK.

Thanks for all the info. This question was one my buddy was talking to me about so I figured I would hit my secrete hunting buds and come back at him with all your information. I will point him in the right direction with the information from my Huntingnet Brothers! Thanks fellas!

From my experience the speed loss you are seeing is very typical of an average hunting setup. You have to realize that IBO ratings are done with a much lighter arrow than most people shoot, using 70# and a 30" draw. And the speed the factory gets is under ideal conditions with a well tuned bow.
Most people do not shoot at these specs and even less shoot it for hunting, unless they are a fatalist. As soon as you step into the real world those numbers drop dramatically, especially for a hunting setup, so 260 fps is probably just about what you should expect.
As bigbulls said there are some ways to get more, but depending on the ranges you be hunting (30 yards or less?) even a gain of 10-20 fps will be inconsequential. What is important is having a quiet bow.
That doesn't mean you can't play around and try to get some more. Personally that's what gives me the most pleasure about these modern bows--trying to milk them for all the performance possible within the realm of safety. But being as hunting season is upon us it's not the time to be trying to milk it unless you really know what you're doing and can change it back where you started. That's why there are about 10 months of the year with no hunting.

my fastest bow was my old PSE nova 1cam from wal-mart (200$ pkg) shot 270-275fps. i also used a WB on it and with feathers lost nothing but with vanes lost 1-2fps. same with my new bow. i shoot 265fps now and i shoot one pin dead on from 0-10 and 17-30yrds at 11-16yrds im 2" high and at 31-40yrds i just need to shoot for the top of the lungs to hit center and from 45-50yrds i aim for the spine and drop in center. plenty of speed for any hunting.

josh is right...also factory speeds are tested under near vacuous laboratoryconditions...not in the woods .
PS.. speed kills..thats why some folk pay big bucks (advertising ploys)for bowz that dont kill and better than lesser priced slower bowz...dead is dead
