Default Darton string

Shooting a Darton Excel (1995)
The string is looking a little rough (plus I want to drop the peep and go with a kisser), manual list a 59-1/2" string,
Do I need to order one from Darton, or will any good shop happen to have a 59-1/2" string ?
A friend has a bow press, can I just wander into BassPro and pickup a string for this thing?

Many Thanks,
Nick

maybe, is it a true dually or a cam.5? darton's cam.5 system is larger than hoyt/reflex and pse. where they take 14.5" of end serving a darton cam.5 takes 17" and most generic strings won't have enough serving to get around the cams.

It's a true dually. I had one that I bought in '93, and shot my first archery buck with it. The cams are physically small, so you should not need an abnormal amount of end serving. When you take the old string off, be observant. First of all, to take the string off, you have to remove the draw length modules. After that, note which slot the steel pin is in on each cam. On the slot closest to where the string wraps around the cam, the string is effectively longer, and it will lengthen the draw and raise your draw weight about 4-5#, if the string is currently in the farther of the two slots, which factory string usually are. If it has been a long time since the string has been changed, you will likely need a small screwdriver to pry out the steel pin. Just be careful not to dent or scratch the soft magnesium cams. Also make note of the slot the steel cables are resting in at each end. The plastic draw length adjustment disks have 4 slots on them. You need to get the cables in the correct slots, or the timing and/or draw length may be affected. Sorry if I'm making it sound complicated. It isn't really bad, you just have to look at how the bow is set up now, and try to duplicate it.

BTW, gibblet makes awesome strings according to everyone. You may want to order one from him.
