Default Newbie to Archery needs info...

Hi all,
I'm new to Archery and need some information. I shoot a High Country Trophy Hunter, 45-60# 31" draw, w/ 65% let-off. Using Carbon Wolverine arrows and a TruGlo multipin. My question is how do I figure out the best configuration, arrow weight, speed, etc....for my bow without putting alot of money into trial and error?

Any advice you guys could give will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,

Well, there are several ways, but they are all estimations although you can get pretty close. First, you start w/ the IBO speed of your bow. That's your starting number. Now you have to subtract string add ons, such as a peep sight, string silencers and the like. Then you have to figure the weight of the arrow, make that subtraction, subtract the draw weight, and given your 31" DL you can add a little there. OK, so now that you have done that, you'll have an estimated speed and from there you can figure your KE.

String add on deductions: (I'm not sure of all these, all are +/- 2 or 3 fps....

-- string silencer: 5 fps
-- brass nock:7 fps
-- string loop : 7 fps
-- peep w/ tubing: 10-12 fps
-- peep w/out tubing: 7-10 fps

Draw weight deduction: guys, help me here....is it 3 fps per pound? I think so.....

You can add about 5-7 fps for the extra inch of DL....

Arrow weight deduction: For every seven grains over 350 gr, subtract 1 fps.

Guys, I am sure some of these numbers are slightly off, please correct any I have wrong. This will get you close. It won't be exact, but it should give you an idea of where to head.

It's been my experience that right around 5.8-5.9 grains per pound is a good balance of weight and speed.
