Default Speed!!!!!!!!

I am looking at getting a new bow later this spring, I have some concerns about new bows. How do bow companies get the advertised speeds? What arrow weight are they shooting? I shoot a 510 grain arrow (with tip) out of my 1999 PSE nova, at 65lbs it gets them up to a whopping 210fps. My goal is to get a new bow that can get them into the 260-280fps range. I am a 28in draw and will be getting a 70lb draw bow. I will be looking at all the big names from bowtech , PSE, Mathews, and Hoyt. You guys and gals have helped me in the past and I am thanking you ahead of time.

In a perfect world, IBO speeds should be measured at a 70 pound draw weight with a 30 inch AMO draw length and a 350 grain arrow. Nothing on the bowstring whatsoever.

AMO speeds are shot at a 60 pound draw weight, 30 inch draw length and a 540 grain arrow...but you really do not see AMO speed ratings published much anymore. This is most likely the result of folks wanting faster bows and enjoying the faster listed IBO speeds for any given bow. Fast bows sell.

At a 65 pound draw weight and a 28 inch draw length you should be able to get speeds of 260+ assuming you are willing to compromise on arrow weight a bit.

280 is expecting a lot from a 510 grain arrow at a 28" draw. Mine are 500 grains at a 29.5" draw and I'm pushing them at 255 fps out of my Hoyt UltraTech which is plenty fast for an arrow that heavy. Keep your goals realistic and you won't be dissappointed. If you get 250 to 260 fps be very happy.

Thanks, 260 is about what I was thinking I would get with the tribute. 280 would be nice but, did not think would happen. I want to stay on the heavy side of arrows, 250-260 is still much faster than 200-210!

I bet you could push 280 w/ a few bows out there, but no way w/ a 510 gr. arrow. Yer gonna have to go lighter. If it were me, I'd look for the happy medium. 250 range or a little better w/ a heavier arrow.
