I am working to add a new sight to a bow that I just purchased. There are many out there and was wondering what you felt about using 3 or 5 pins for backpack hunting scenarios?
i cant stand multiple pin systems they ususally cause more confusion then accurate shots while hunting. if you have a bow shooting more then 250 fps i dont see the need for hunting , maybe 2 pins. i shoot one pin 2" high at 5 yds, dead on at 25 2" low at 30yds. after that i aim for the top of the back at 35 and just over at 40. i ve only had to shoot over 30 yds maybe 10 times in my life. everything has to be really perfect for me to want to shoot that far to many variables. broadside in the open standing or else i dont shoot. if you use more pins you should really work on judging distance accuratley.

After just researching sights myself for a newly purchased bow, I ordered this sight.. www.viperarcheryproducts.com . The sight I ordered is the Viper Predator Pro Microtune, not shown at the website as of yet, it's brand new. You can see the Predator Pro and for the MT they've added microadjustment knobs and a built in harmonic dampener. This sight is by far the nicest one I've personally found available. It's price at $149 but well worth it. I ordered two, one for a friend I was telling him about it...he said if you like it, order me one as well. The availability is mid March.
There are however many great sights out there. Good luck.
If you are going to use your bow just for hunting I would purchase a 3 pin sight. If you will also be shooting competition target or 3-D go the with 5 pin.

I have also been looking at a 3 pin sight and the other day I shot a bow at a local sports shopwith this sight and was very impressed with it!! I believe it sells for about $65.
reflex03, that is a nice little sight for the price and simplicity. I on the other hand like microtuning..if I want to move it a 1/16 of an inch, I don't want it to slide to 1/4"....been there, done that and then you have to second guess and start over...here's the Viper Predator Pro, the MT (microtune) isn't on the website yet.
I've got a Vital Bow Gear vertical 3 pin sight and like it. The vertical pins don't cover up as much of your target - since they're all in line with each other. I could probably get away with a single pin, but just need more practice shooting. Once I reallyhone my technique and know my bow/arrows inside and out, I'll probably try a single pin or a pendulum sight. If your bow is pretty fast, the pins start getting so close that it can get to be a pain. (Too much thinking, not enough doing).I hunt only and a5 pin would be distracting for me personally.
