Default Bear Kodiak Hunter.

My son came home from his friends house the other day with a kodiak hunter that has a 45 lb draw. After looking at the bow there are horizontal fractures on the front of the limbs right above and below the riser where the riser narrows to the limbs, this does seem to be in the jell coat but is it still safe to shoot? the area covers about a 4 in span on both limbs and if it is safe what length of string does it take?

Its a good chance that the bow is a wallhanger if the cracking is across the limbs and not vertical along the length of the bow. The bow should have its AMO length written on the riser. If the bow is 60" long the string should be about 56" long. Also once the bow is strung do not bring it to full draw all at once if it has not been shot for a while. Just shoot it at half draw for a while, then 3/4 to exercise the fibers of the wood before going to full draw.
