I have a 13 year old Darton viper with the energy wheels in between round and cams, My arrow weight is 410gr (carbon) total, my draw length is 29" and my pull is 62 pounds, What speed do you think I am getting from this bow? Thx, Elmer
I just sold a Viper like yours last year, and did have it chronographed. I was getting a little over 250 fps with the arrow weight you mentioned. Really only about 10 fps slower than my current bow until I went pretty low with arrow weight. Great shooting bow, and a good performer for an old timer.

Fastest bow I ever shot was a viper , faster than the black knite I had , but it was 1" longer and 10 lbs heavery , It shot 315 at 73 lbs and 30 inches with a 360 grain arrow . Blazen . Id bet your in the 280s .

You think(280`s)that would be awesome speed for a 13year old bow with the magnesium riser, this bow is 43 inches axle to axle and I just took 2 deer with it 2 days ago both went down in under 60 yards. First deer ever with a bow, great experience!!!!

Are you sure you're not thinking about a Hoyt Viper? They were very fast bows with low brace height. The Darton Viper is 43" ata with a 7" brace. The magnesium High Energy Wheels did store decent energy for a "soft" cam. They were rated at 230 AMO and (I think) 295-300 IBO. Again, pretty fast for a smooth drawing older bow, but mine (same specs as elmer deer's except mine was 63#) did 255 with a 415 gr. arrow. It was actually a little faster than my Pro 40 Wheely (also 62#, 29")with heavier (500 gr.) arrows, but with arrows under 400 grains, it couldn't quite keep up, maybe due to the steel cables and other axle draw length adjusters, etc.

I had a 1992 Darton Viper, bought as a leftover from Bowhunter's Discount Warehouse. I think one of my faster bows for the time, and even decent by today's standards. At 27.5" draw and 61# shooting IBO legal it would shoot low 280's. Never got a chance to get it set up for hunting. Got me a staff shooter position with XI and had to sell the Viper. I liked the bow well enough, especially the $200 price tag.

I'll use a median of 297 fps IBO speed. That is at 30"/70 lbs.
259 fps Assuming you have nothing on the string. Realistically, with a peep, loop, and 2 small string silencers, I'd say your around 245 - 250 fps.
410 grain arrow at 247.5 fps would be 56 ft lbs of KE which is plenty for anything in North American provided your bow is tuned and you make a good shot with a razor sharp broadhead.
