Default Idetification of part on a bow.

Sorry I am a newb I will try to explain this as best as possible.

There is a rubber tube that runs between the string. There is a picture of it here. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/vertical-pod3.jsp?rid=&indexId=cat600266&navAction= push&navCount=2&cmCat=MainCatcat21424& parentType=index&parentId=cat600266&id=003 2911

It has nothing to do with a drop away arrow rest.
What is the name of that piece, and what is its purpose.

The reason I am asking is that my arrows are doing s's when I shoot and I heard from a friend that that piece of rubber helps that out.

Thanks for any information.

The peep tubing? All that does is align the peep at full draw.It doesn't effect arrow flight. What Bow,rest, arrows(length&,brand,&size),tips, and poundage are you shooting.Maybe I can help you out with your arrow flight problem.

Cyberg,

That piece of rubber tubing is there to align your peep sight. When the bow string is pulled back on full draw the tubing is stretched and thus turns the peep to keep it aligned. Otherwise the peep may turn and you would not be able to look thru it.

There are many reasons why your arrows are not flying right. It could be as simple as a rest adjustment, nock adjustment, tiller adjustment, timing adjustment (two cam bow)wrong arrow spine (stiffness) or a combination of any or all of the above.

Don't fret, there are many here who can help you get it rightor at least point you in the right direction. If you have agood proshop near you I would suggest going to them first.

The internet is a good place to learn all aboutyour bow including all of the part names and what they do. Please do a little research yourself before you jump in with both feet. This will help you relay what your bow is or is not doing. This way when someone tells you what to look for or to do, you will know what they are talking about.

There is alot to learn but knowing the basics is a start.

Oh and WELCOME!

Like dwd said , tell us what draw length you have , how long your arrows are , what arrows you are shooting , what weight broadhead ,how many pounds you are pulling , ect.

Better yet , I think a pro shop would do you much more good . Its late in the game , season has started or will start soon , and you should be past tuning and on to serious practice with broadheads .

Thanks for all your replies.

I have a Fred Bear TRX, 29" draw, 70 LBS pull, Prong arrow rest I shoot carbon arrows, Whitetail 3665 with 125 grain muzzy broadheads and 125 field points. I am pretty sure the prong arrow rest was the problem. I took it to bwana archery. I am having them shorten the draw lenght to 27" and lessen the pull to 65# I was also using my fingers, not a release and put on a Wisker Biscut deluxe arrow rest. I always shot recurves when I was younger and was an amazing shot, I found out compounds are nothing like a recurve.

I thought I was going to go early in the season, so I just went out and bought a bow thinking I could adjust whatever on the fly and work it out. I bought it at Gander Mountain which was a huge mistake, but I learned my lesson so it turned out to be not so bad. I spent 5 hours looking at every bow in the store not one time did someone come and ask if they could help. I went back to Gander after the first time I shot because something didn't feel right because my arrows were sticking 5 inches over the rest. The guy working that day spent a long time with me explaining a bunch of things and really helped me out.

Its going to be like everything else, it takes time to learn. With this and other forums I hope to take my first whitetail this year by compound bow. When I get into something I go full bore, thats the only way I know. Season lasts till dec 31 here so plenty of time.

The changes should be done this Thursday on my bow so I should be able to start practice shooting this weekend. With the changes I am sure it will be better right off the bat since the setup was completly wrong for me to start.

Again, thanks for all your reply's. I will report back and am sure I will have more ?'s
